SALISBURY – A proposed tax abatement program could benefit certain developers looking to build in downtown Salisbury.
In a work session last week, Salisbury’s Acting Mayor Julia Glanz and Deputy City Administrator Andy Kitzrow came before the Wicomico County Council seeking support for a new residential tax credit program to incentivize large-scale hotel or multi-family residential development in the downtown area.
“This is a signature program targeting very lucrative projects, $10 million or larger,” Kitzrow said. “These aren’t small remodels or small fixes … We’re incentivizing the type of development that redefines a city.”
Unlike the city’s existing programs, officials told county leaders the Horizon (Hotel or Residential Incentive Zone) program would focus on residential development. Glanz noted that putting “more heads in beds” could spur revitalization efforts in downtown Salisbury.
Why don’t you cut taxes for working people instead of the rich ???
This is nothing but a bailout for Nick Simpson and the City of Salisbury. You people that live Salisbury need to contact your Councilmember’s and tell them NO!
I agree with you, Joe!
You are 100% correct! Who is this Nick Simpson dude anyway? A friend of Jake’s!
Why don’t you fix the roads that have holes everywhere? Just for instance take a look at the 6 way intersection of Mt Hermon, East Main, Truitt, East William and Long Avenue! Just one example. Why are rainbows and bike paths and downtown more important than our streets. ??
I agree with you about the potholes and bad streets in Ghettobury!
Does anyone really know if Julia Glanz has any legal authority? Is she really Acting Mayor? How long can one be Acting Mayor? Is there anything about this in the charter?
I honestly think this is a violation of the City Charter!
Shame on Manure Bota and Jack Heath!
They are violating the city charter. The city council President should be the acting mayor, not an unelected LGBTQ thing.
“Lucrative projects” for who? The ghettobury’s fake elite?
“multi-family residential development” – more apartments
“that redefines a city.” – still high rental rate, low homeownership, high poverty?
“more heads in beds” could spur revitalization efforts in downtown ” – oh such cute buzz words, is that a joke, we are already at 40% poverty and no one goes downtown, you think more welfare recipients will?
Kitzrow – someone pump his head full of BS
Holloway – “So we’re going to give tax breaks to the people building the new buildings,” he said. “And the people that own the buildings that have been there and have been paying taxes all these years are going to have to pay more taxes.” – Thank you!
your MIA mayor – is on record touting his commitment to improving home ownership figures, all the while behind your back working deals to have more apartments built.
Cannon – ‘the fact that we don’t want to raise taxes but we want to increase the tax base” – Really ? Wasn’t it just a handful of years ago, that one of Jakes not so brilliant ideas was to try and tax rental properties at a higher rate than homeowners, while admitting, that renters pose no significant increased cost to infrastructure or calls for service?
Ernie Davis added he was hesitant – and you should be Ernie. Good for you.
Cannon said he supported the tax incentive program. – Anyone surprised at that?
Bill McCain disagreed. “At this time all that’s being asked of us is a letter of support” – really Bill? Did you even read it? Why do you need a signed “letter of support” for, if it is not binding to anything?
Still focusing on 2 square blocks while the rest of the city deteriorates, and crime soars?
And in the end your taxes will still be raised to compensate for the tax break given to those participating in these sweet little back room deals?
I mean, didn’t the city already screw ya’ll when they sold the parking lots for pennies on the dollar because someone was going to build more apts , restaurants, shopping, etc? don’t remember that? where did that all go? I thought that was supposed to bring development and more tax money? did it? Beer garden? Anyone been there? Civic center? More apts?
This place is a total clown show
We need affordable non rental single family housing and if your leaders don’t recognize that they are either, complete idiots, liars or just making deals for their buddies.
I choose all 3 of thee above.
I agree with you and I feel confident that Dodd, Acle, Holloway and Davis will do the right thing and send these THIEVES packing! They are by far the best members of the county council. The other 3 are Socialist thieves who have a vested interest in this deal!
Looks like Davis punked out and voted RINO Cannon to give this clown a bailout at the tax payers expense!
Has anyone noticed that the the buildings in question have been half torn down and and looking like a horrible eyesore because that friend of Jake Day’s lost his funding and Jake is trying to help his buddy out by giving him this free handout. Vote No!
Yes, that Friend of Jake’s goes by the name of Nick Simpson and he needs the bail out from the city and the county so he can get rich. I was watching the meetings on TV and he wants the taxpayers to finish building his Ross Building for “student housing.” He wants this tax abatement for the next 25 years where he won’t have to pay taxes on that rundown $hithole! That means we the property owners in this city and county will be paying the taxes for him.
“Glanz noted that putting “more heads in beds” could spur revitalization efforts in downtown Salisbury.”
——-
She admits this is a bailout for Salisbury’s FAILED streetscape program where they tore up and ruined the streets of downtown Salisbury for the last 6 years or so years!
Jake Day, Jack Heath, Manure Bota and Michele Gregory are full bred Socialist FAILURES!!
Please, name the “certain developers”.
Those Certain developers are Nick Simpson, Gillis Gilkerson, Blair Carey, Chris Eccleston/Veteran Builders, et. al.
And RINO John Cannon sides with the Democrats again! Can we start a recall petition or make damn sure we vote this RINO out of office!
It’s funny how they think crumbling OLD downtown is some capital venue. It’s a crumbling stack of bricks. Face it people Salisbury has come to big box stores strip malls and suburban franchises on par with Glen Burnie and you ALL WANTED it and got it. No one cares or supports small businesses or restaurants. You mourned the closing of the Golden Corral and cry for a Cracker Barrell. The few REAL venues here are frequented by elites selling real estate and paying to be seen in Metropolitan Magazine . I know you think it’s ALL down home living but guess what. You have all been duped and sold out.
Those clowns are Pipe Dreaming!
Our Wicomico County Council better not give them clowns a tax free bail out. Shame on John Cannon for trying to force that down our throats like a Democrat. Shame on Democrats Josh Hastings and Bill McCain for trying to force that crap down our throats!
Kudos to Democrat Ernie Davis for looking out for the Taxpayers!
Yes, Kudos to Ernie Davis. I will take that young man on the county council over that slum lord John Cannon any day. Mr. Davis is a hard working man where the RINO Cannon was left an inheritance. Who is the more honest man? It certainly isn’t John Cannon.
We need Ernie Davis as President of the council. He asks good questions and wants facts and these clowns cannot side set him or Holloway.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Your wannabe council President caved in and voted to give Nick Simpson and Gillis Gilkerson their free tax breaks!
Ummm! You didn’t watch the meeting I see. He voted with Cannon, Hastings and McCain to give that douche bag Nick Simpson a bailout!
What idiot said Ernie Davis should be the council President??? He He voted RINO Cannon, Socialist Josh Hastings and Libtard McCain to give Nick Simpson a bail out! Guess who has to pay for the bail out?? We the tax payers! And that sucks!
