A growing number of hiring managers are being told to deprioritize hiring white men as part of many companies’ efforts to boost diversity in the office, according to a new survey.
Resume Builder published the results of a study that evaluated businesses’ diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The report reveals that “reverse discrimination”—a strategy that avoids applicants who belong to a particular race or gender in order to meet DEI benchmarks—is becoming more common in the hiring process.
Researchers discovered that 16 percent of hiring managers surveyed had been directed to deprioritize white men when evaluating candidates. Moreover, 14 percent have been encouraged to deprioritize hiring white women.
When asked how often they passed on qualified candidates because they weren’t “diverse enough,” nearly half (48 percent) said “very” or “somewhat often.”
Fifty-three percent reported being concerned that they would be terminated if they didn’t hire enough diverse employees. In addition, 47 percent of hiring managers noted that they felt pressure from company higher-ups to bring diverse individuals to the workplace, while more than one-third (35 percent) believed they were pushed by customers. Thirty-one percent even felt pressure from colleagues.
White, Black, Asian, Mexican and any others should be hired & promoted according to ability, hard work & dependability not race that is fair!
Discrimination !!! Whites need a NAAWP & Affirmative Action to Level the Playing Field & Race Card !!!!
They left out OLD white men that are still working and should not be.
I’ve employed and hired many people over many years. I wouldn’t screen anyone based on race. But I will say that white men have been disproportionately poor performers. They tend to be less willing to work hard, less willing to take constructive criticism, and more likely to feel that they’re entitled to the job and the pay regardless of their performance. Not all, but more so than others. I think it’s a legacy of the times when their families were able to exploit slaves and women so they didn’t have to work so hard themselves.
Isn’t this called racism?? Discrimination??
