A Michigan woman is being charged after allegedly stealing items from Walmart by not scanning all of her items at the self-checkout.
Police say 34-year-old TeddyJo Marie Fliam was using the self-checkout at an Alpena County Walmart when loss prevention workers noticed she wasn’t scanning every item. Fliam became agitated and denied she was skipping items when confronted by a loss prevention worker and left the store, according to a report from Fox 2.
The incident caused the store to review its surveillance footage, which showed Fliam had stolen more than $1,000 in merchandise by not scanning it from the Walmart since April.
Fliam was arrested at her Alpena home last month and is charged with first-degree retail fraud.
The Alpena County Walmart’s loss prevention team has recently begun to crack down on thefts at the self-checkout, with Michigan State Police recording two similar incidents in which people were arrested after swapping barcodes while checking out items.
If Walmart would hire enough cashiers, they wouldn’t have that problem. It’s disgusting…………you go in and get your stuff then try to find the ONE cashier who is open and stand in a huge long line, even if you have a couple items, there are no express lines open/

This should be Illegal & has been a sore on the store many times in the past which pisses off customers !!!!
When I worked at SEARS for store Security 4 years they would have called that a BAD STOP which was
Illegal to Stop an innocent person’s movement !!! So WHY is Walmart & Sams allowed to do it !!! DUGH !!!!
Also at Sears we weren’t even allowed to Chase anyone even if they had stolen items !!!
Because SAFETY comes First & store security are NOT POLICE !!!!
To begin with customers should not have to scan their own items , Which is putting people out of work, while
having to do walmart’s work for free , which is NOT the customer’s JOB !!!

With the tough times we are dealing with right now, because of the current administration in Washington, most families are forced to shop for the best prices. It’s not wanting your cake and eat too 12:40 !!!
Someone showed data and analysis where self check out was cost effective, saved time and resources (people amd money) and made the customer happy.
Well thats all fine and dandy when everything is a perfect scenario. I love slef checkout when i have a few items amd there is no line. In this instance it works. Where and when it doesnt work, pay days, saturdays,.sundays and most weekdays from 11am until 7pm.
When 3/4s of your checkouts are self service, with 1 store employee amd long lines – it doesnt work.
When your regular check outs have only 1 person (retirement age of course) and they want to talk to you the entire time, the system bogs does even more.
The person helping self service or behind the regular checkout has no sbility to communicate clearly, the system bogs down.
Kiosks in fast foot, another failure. Even if orders are taken quicker the line waiting for food underminds the quick checkout.
This type of self service is not a fit for all.

Walmart is going to be transitioning back to regular cashiers due to the amount of loss they’ve seen through the self checkouts.
Just keep walking past the people checking your receipts. They can’t stop you. Typically they only want to look if you have unbagged items.
I don’t mind Sam’s…they’ve always done it and there are no bags there. Add in that it’s a Club so to speak that you pay for, and I think you have to play by the Club’s rules so to speak.
Why would someone want to join a club that doesn’t trust them ?
When they SHOULD have seen you come from the register and it should be the cashier’s
responsibility to make shure you Paid while at their register, Plus > Now at Sam’s they put your
items on THEIR side of the register while You are on the Other side to Pay, away from the items ,
while They scan the items > There should be NO NEED TO STOP YOU OR CHECK YOU !!!!
Needs to be LAW that they cannot stop INNOCENT PEOPLE Period !!! So they have NO choice about it !!!!
They should be SUED if they try to force you to Stop & they Better NOT Touch You or chase you down !!!!
You could REFUSE to stop , & then they could Bar you from the store, then you could sue for Discrimination !!!!
or just Put up with it !!! & be a Good Slave !!!

I hate Sam’s Club. You have to pay to go in and spend your money. Not!! Then i’t like getting in and our of the Pentagon, checking every item on your receipt. They are really trusting souls, aren;t they? I guess if you run a store or have a family of 2 dozen people, they might be ok, but even with their bulk products, it doesn’t break down to that much cheaper and you still have to go through all that rigamaroe to get out, then take all the stuff out to your car and load it into your own boxes, bags or whatever. Not worth it!
