SNOW HILL– A move to convert part-time positions to full-time is expected to help staffing at the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office.
On Tuesday, the Worcester County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve a request from Sheriff Matt Crisafulli to convert nine part-time positions to full-time. Crisafulli said the change would allow him to fill the positions, which have been vacant for some time.
“We’re just simply not getting part-time applications,” he said.
Crisafulli said his team had evaluated staffing and had determined that part-time positions within the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office were not getting interest. Typically, those positions are filled with retirees from other law enforcement agencies. Crisafulli said that with nine part-time vacancies, he felt it was necessary to convert the positions to full-time so that they could be filled.
“I can guarantee that if you grant us this we will be able to fill the nine positions,” he said.
Well Keep them OFF radar & ON a Beat !!!
Make them work in the jail for 6 months !!!!
In the end it will cost more than the stated $387,000, because part time deputies are not eligible for medical or retirement benefits (with few exceptions), whereas all full-time deputies are. Those medical and retirement benefits need to be factored into the long-term costs. Additionally, the majority of part-time deputies (most of whom are assigned to the Circuit Court, Monday through Friday) are not assigned take home departmental vehicles, whereas full-time deputies are. That means more fuel will be used and it is highly probable that additional vehicles will be required. It you take the amount that has been stated of $387,000 and divide that by nine full time deputies that equates to a salary of $43,000 per year for each. Currently, on the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office website the listed starting salary range for a full-time MPCTC Maryland certified deputy sheriff is $49358 – $54517 annually. It you take the lowest starting salary of $49358 per year for each of the nine deputies, that totals $444,222. This amount does not include any overtime paid, which is substantially greater than “slightly more than $387,000”.
Well, the officers need full-time work. That County throws away more money than you can shake a stick at. They funded that disaster of a river boat for the town. The cliche gives raises to certain departments and
people, whose only goal all day is, what’s for lunch. I see government building employees all the time walking around, or riding to the store on County time. Lunch break is at 12, not 10:30, 11:00 0’clock. Good ole girl/ boy system is alive and well in Worcester County.
If it is only for more radar cops cancel the jobs then
Keep them off the road & in the hood !
