In America, there was once a thing called free speech.
Today a jury reached a verdict in the Alex Jones case and ordered the conservative author and TV host to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to the Sandy Hook families for something he said in 2014.
Jones was ordered to pay $965 million to the families. Good Lord!
Jones allegedly owes $229 million to just the first three plaintiffs, all family members of Sandy Hook victims.
He should appeal all the way to the supreme court!
The lefty judicial system has been chipping away at our freedoms on a regular basis.
SCOTUS recently affirmed the Second Amendment and sent the Abortion issue to the states…they need to look at the First Amendment next…..
Imagine being such a slack jawed moron that you defend Alex Jones after he spread lies about murdered kids and led a harassment campaign against their parents. Nothing he did has anything to do with the First Amendment or free speech.

As it should be. Free speech is one thing, but lies that cause violence (like falsely yelling “fire” in a crowded theater) are something entirely different. Jones is a pig who took it upon himself to spread evil in his own voice. He only did it to gin up his own profits. The publisher of this site is thoughtful and careful enough not to do so himself. He’s protected legally since it’s only other people who post the legally dumb stuff here.

Uhhh, no its not. The Court (Federal Gov) decided to charge. He said things (sticks and stones) and the Govt charged. That is elimination of freedom of speech.
Private industry firing you because you said bad things is an example of NOT taking away ones freedom of speech.
Private industry and Govt – 2 different entities. Over 3/4’s of this country is employed by private industry. Government is very small.

Uh, no. Falsely yelling “fire” in a crowded theater is not protected free speech. Nor is what Jones did. That’s actually the law, and for very good reason. And BTW, courts don’t decide to charge. Prosecutors do. You should have paid attention in school.

Defamation and Libel are not ” Free Speech “. If someone publically published falsehoods about your character or that of your family you would have a righteous fit.
