The share of Americans who say inflation is causing them financial hardship has risen from 49 percent in January to 56 percent, with rising prices forcing 69 million households to make cutbacks, a survey revealed on Wednesday.
The Gallup survey found that ever-more wealthy and middle-class families were feeling the pinch from inflation, forcing them to spend less on groceries and other basics, drive less and cancel vacations.
A worrying 12 percent of the survey’s 1,570 respondents said they were experiencing ‘severe hardship’ that was lowering their standard of living — a rise on the 9 percent who said so at the start of 2022.
Even though gas prices have fallen to $3.78 per gallon and inflation dipped to 8.5 percent in July, the economy and rising prices remain a top concern for millions of cash-strapped voters heading in to November’s midterms.
‘With high inflation persisting for over a year, a majority of Americans now say they are experiencing financial hardship from higher prices,’ said the report.
‘Lower-income Americans were mainly affected early on, but most middle-income Americans and a substantial minority of upper-income Americans are now feeling the strain of higher prices.’

We can all thank you o’biden voters and those that helped the election fraud succeed. You all got what you wanted, the destruction of middle class which will lead to the destruction of our prosperity and freedom. I hope you’re happy now that the American dream is gone. Your kids and grandkids will never know what freedom is or have the opportunities we had. Thanks again, I hope you all are happy now knowing what you’ve done. It is still so hard for me to believe what happened to this great country, but I see and feel it getting worse and worse every day.
Welp, there’s Rickie’s reason why as expectations this summer were too high when reality hit. INFLATION.
Rickie you commerce community added to the hurt by inflating prices – attempt to recover lost revenue from the previous 2 years. No one can ever ever recover lost revenue. Never ever – yet they tried and people stayed away again. Especially mid week.
An occupied room brings in tax revenue for the room, gas, meals, etc. An empty room bring in NADA for anyone.
Communicate that to the commerce folks since they seem to be off center again. When they close this offseason – and many more will – that also brings NADA to the island.
Yet West Ocean City will continue to thrive.
Its all Transgender loving Jake Day fault
Those of you who are heating with oil and are on a budget plan, check what your payment will be this season. I have a 1,700 foot brick rancher and my monthly bill was increased $130 dollars over last year.
Some of us are even having to cancel a meal or two a day. Thanks Joe!!
