Maryland Gov. Hogan first of the potential GOP 2024 presidential hopefuls to visit Iowa State Fair

Republican Gov. Larry Hogan of Maryland heads to the Iowa State Fair on Thursday, as part of a jam-packed two-day visit to the state whose caucuses for half a century have kicked off the presidential nominating calendar.

The governor will showcase a crime and law enforcement plan during this trip. Details of the proposals were shared first with Fox News on the eve of his Iowa arrival.

Hogan will also become the first of the potential 2024 GOP presidential contenders this cycle to visit the state fair, which has long been a must stop for White House hopefuls.

The term-limited governor’s trip to Iowa comes less than month after the candidate he was supporting in Maryland’s Republican gubernatorial primary in the race to succeed him lost to a contender backed by former President Donald Trump. The race was partially framed as a proxy battle between the former president and Hogan, who’s long been a vocal Trump critic.

Kelly Schulz – a former state lawmaker who served as Maryland’s secretary of labor and secretary of commerce during Hogan’s eight years as governor – was defeated by conservative state lawmaker Dan Cox – the Trump backed anti-abortion candidate who also strongly supports the former president’s unproven claims that the 2020 presidential election was riddled with massive voter fraud and rigged.

Political prognosticators viewed Cox’s win as a political loss for Hogan, who acknowledged in a Fox News interview ahead of his Iowa trip that “it may appear to be a temporary setback.”

  1. TV clips showed Boss Hogg in Iowa moving a few burgers around on a grill for a photo-op. Meanwhile back in the war zone known as Baltimore killings and shootings continued despite his warbling half a continent away about his crime and law enforcement plan.

He’s had the best part of 8 years to come up with something, anything to reduce and curtail the mayhem in Baltimore. He’s too busy imagining himself hunkered down in DC to spend any time on the needs of Marylanders. What a sad excuse for a human; he’s governor but he’s not a leader. Go away, Larry.

  2. TAXPAYERS pay him to manage the State of Maryland, not to go job hunting and take scenic tours to see if he can find a better job.
WHERE do politicians get the idea that they can look for other jobs while being paid to do something entirely different??
YOU try that at YOUR job.
You won’t have one for very long.
As a taxpayer, I’m angry and disgusted that he can spend millions of OUR dollars doing stupid things like seeing if he can garner support for a run at the presidency.
He couldn’t get 5000 votes across this entire country (unless he enlisted some democrats to help with the “mail-in” ballots).
Do your job, you fat bastid. OR, quit it and look for another one.

  3. The most he’ll return to Maryland with is a sunburn on that polished dome and a
    mustard stain on his necktie.

  4. I don’t see Hogan being any sort of serious contender for the republican party. If Trump doesn’t run for some reason, it will be DeSantis. Hogan doesnt have the stones for the job.
