BERLIN, MD – Worcester County Sheriff Matt Crisafulli, will be one of sixteen inspiring stories
included in a new book coming out on November 1, 2022, by Skyhorse Publishing.
“Called to Serve: The Inspiring, Untold Stories of America’s First Responders gives readers a
very personal, inside look into these unsung heroes’ lives on and off the job. The brave police
officers, firefighters, and emergency medical professionals in our book risk their lives every day
not knowing if it will be their last. And their dedication to service is unwavering,” said Dava
Guerin, co-author of Called to Serve and a former Berlin, MD resident.
“My co-authors, Mike Hardwick, Sam Royer, and I chose Sheriff Crisafulli as one of the inspiring
profiles in the book because of his emphasis on community policing, innovative law enforcement
practices, putting people over politics and his personal story,” Guerin added. “He had led with
integrity and passion, and we are thankful he agreed to be part of this meaningful project,” she
added.
“It has been an honor to serve on the soil of Worcester County for 27 years. I moved here in 1995
and quickly realized this was “Home”. My wife, Gwen and I, have raised our daughters, Monica
and Natalie, here in Worcester County. Being in a position to serve and lead others, is a great
privilege that I hold dear to my heart. I love my county, I love our residents. I strive to empower
those around me on a daily basis. I want to thank Skyhorse publishing for their work on this book.
I also want to thank co-authors, Dava Guerin, Mike Hardwick and Sam Royer. This book is a
testament to the millions of first responders, working in our great country, saving lives everyday”.
