A man shot two people dead and injured two others after setting fire to a truck outside a Nebraska Sonic Drive-In — three days after being arrested for stealing $57 worth of burgers, authorities said.
Roberto Carlos Silva Jr., 23, grinned in his mugshot early Sunday after he was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of arson for the deadly attack at the fast-food restaurant Saturday night.
Police were initially called to the Bellevue restaurant amid fears of a bomb after a U-Haul was spotted with wires and pipes sticking out of it — with shots ringing out minutes later, Bellevue police said in a release.
Videos from the chaotic scene show a large fire raging close to the drive-in after the truck was also ignited by “some fireworks or some type of device,” Lt. Andy Jashinske said at a briefing at the scene.
