‘Why was it so important to drive through such a snowstorm?’: Democrat Virginia Gov. Northam blames DRIVERS for getting trapped on I-95 for 30 hours as he attempts to dodge blame

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam blamed drivers for being on the roads earlier this week after hundreds of people were stranded on a 50 mile stretch of Interstate 95 for 30 hours due to the extreme winter weather.

In an interview with WRVA, the outgoing Democratic governor, attempted to dodge blame and became frustrated when he was asked what went wrong on Monday and Tuesday.

‘I am getting sick and tired of people talking about what went wrong,’ the governor quipped back. ‘I think we ought to be very thankful that nobody got hurt, nobody lost their lives, Interstate 95 is up and running and people are back at home and back to work.’

The I-95 in Virginia was finally cleared on Tuesday evening, after motorists were stranded without gas, water or food for more than 24 hours.

The state’s Department of Transport tweeted at 5.15pm: ‘UPDATE: There are no people stranded still on I-95. Less than 20 vehicles left to be removed from the interstate before plow trains will come through to remove snow and ice from the travel lanes.’

The road was fully operational in time for the Wednesday morning commute just ahead of a second winter storm that was heading towards the state on Thursday leading Northam to declare a state of emergency for the rest of the month.
