A Viewer Writes: A list of businesses that STILL serve the locals?

Fenwick is down to a few (maybe none). Bummer.  If You want a crab cake sandwich? Forget it.  Can no longer rely on a business open for one of these sandwiches.  Fenwick residents must drive to Crabs to Go in West OC. OC is no longer a year round resort.

  1. I live in West OC and cross that bridge onto the Island less and less as the years go by.

At most 5 times so far this year.

  2. Your observation is pretty close but you can get a crab cake sandwich from Crabcake Factor on RT54 and (starting at 5PM usually) a soft crab sandwich at Rusty Jimmie’s. I too am forced to occasionally drive to Crabs to Go. You are right though about loss of a year round status with many places closed 3 days per week and staffing for the bus of only 2 drivers.

  3. Uhhh…I’ve lived here my entire life and O.C. has never been a “year round resort”. It’s a summer time place for high school and college kids to act like idiots, A-holes from PA,NJ, and NY who can’t afford a real vacation and wanna be gang bangers from across the bay that as soon as they cross the Rt. 50 drawbridge they think they are Scarface. Used to love taking a short ride to the beach but it’s just not worth it anymore.

  4. Ocean City’s Nepotism was bound to catch up with them. Just how long will it take for the Council to form a committee to manage waste collections like they did with Transportation. The only “manager” they have left used to be the handyman from the local Catholic Church and the few before him were former Selbyville chicken plant employees (and before that, the manager got caught with his hand in the fare box). The Council sure knows how to pick them. Maybe the next mayor can fix things.

  5. So, who can recommend a source for a soft crab sandwich between Fenwick Island and Route 50 in Ocean City, MD? I should not need to drive to Baltimore. because OC is Dead.

  6. West O and our close friends to our immediate north with reality shout outs!!!!
The southern tip of the island should be ashamed – yet they won’t and remain out of touch.

Homemade crab cakes – absolutely. Especially crabs caught in the Assawoman Bay!!! Don’t forget fresh mussels and clams too!!! A little work – but always work it!
