OC Mayor Advocates For New City Position – Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Officer

OCEAN CITY – On the heels of a federal inquiry into alleged civil rights violations in a pair of incidents on the Boardwalk last June, resort officials this week veered in a different direction and initiated a process to explore creating a diversity and inclusion position.

It was confirmed last week an FBI inquiry into the alleged excessive use of force during a pair of incidents on the Boardwalk determined neither case was a federal civil rights violation and the bureau’s inquiry was now closed. Following those June incidents, state and local civil rights activists met with Mayor Rick Meehan inside City Hall, while activists conducted a peaceful protest outside.

Out of that meeting was borne the request for the city to create a diversity and inclusion work group to begin exploring some of the issues raised. At the close of Monday’s meeting, Meehan explained the need for the town to begin exploring some of the diversity and inclusion issues and issued a call for his colleagues on the council to begin exploring a diversity, equality and inclusion position within the city government.

“During that meeting, I was asked if I would hire a diversity, equity and inclusion officer for the Town of Ocean City,” he said. “I explained our council-city manager form of government, but that was certainly something I would look into for them. After our initial follow-up meeting with our now-established diversity and inclusion work group, we promised to work with these local representatives to address a number of these issues and develop a dialogue.”

Meehan said he approached City Manager Doug Miller to begin exploring the creation of a diversity position, learning there was currently a training position being advertised by the town that could be adapted to the proposed new position.

  1. Remember this- equality means equal opportunity . Equity means equal outcomes. We believe that no person WHO IS QUALIFIED should be denied an opportunity. So, if a radical black lesbian is brilliant with facts and figures and proves to be the best at saving the county money and would make a crackerjack treasurer, then go for it. She’ll get my vote. But that is NOT what equity is. Equity means that a board or council MUST have an equal number of men and women, or whites and blacks, REGARDLESS of the person’s ability. So a whole bunch of wildly unqualified people are about to take positions of power solely on the basis of their skin color or what between their legs.

Bottom line- it is neo-marxist bullshit and MUST be opposed at every cost.

  2. Ocean City USED to be a true FAMILY resort.

Anyone could walk down any street at any time of the day or night and it would be just a pleasant thing to do.

    NOW, we have “diversity”.

The “diverse” crowd will attack you in broad daylight, rob your wife on the sidewalk, break into your car (or walk across the roofs of cars in the parking garages), start fights on the boardwalk, make lewd comments to your teenage daughter, light commercial fireworks in the street, and generally cause families to go to Nags Head or Siesta Key.

“Inclusive” looks like it means “invite violent city kids and gangsters”.

    Democrats.
Constantly imposing their version of how “We, the People” should live, always to the detriment of honest, taxpaying, law-abiding citizens.
Being a democrat should be against the law.
THEY are THAT dangerous to the ideals of our great republic.

  3. Just remember that Ocean City needs to reform it’s Police dept. and to offer Diversity training within the dept. Their motto is “Walk softly and beat you with a big stick!” The Police department’s attitude is we can do no wrong has been a self sabotaging way of thinking for the department over the years. The Officers during the summer are usually on some type of power trip and do they lie on their police reports, ABSOLUTELY!!!!!! Most of the Officers are brand new and inexperienced to handle situations dealing with people of color. Requiring Body cams for all Officers will help out with some of the corruption and lying that OC Police Officers are notorious for!

  4. 4:05 I know most kops lie and yeah most were little punks in high school with a chip on their shoulder. but seriously handling situations with your so called people of color is total bullshit! people are the same everywhere either they are law abiding or not!
