Calvert County, Maryland, school bus drivers held a “sick-out” Monday to protest low wages and lack of benefits.
The move, by about a couple dozen drivers, was something Calvert County Public Schools officials expected and warned parents about.
The group, outside the Calvert County Board of Education in Prince Frederick, told FOX 5 DC they are being asked to take on more work to cover routes.
This is amazing. Several years ago I attended an open house held by the school my grandaughter attended and there were flyers in the lobby from a bus contractor looking to recruit drivers. The were offering $30/hr jobs while Ocean City was paying their bus drivers under $15/hr.
Pull a Regan (when the air traffic controllers were making noise )
….problem solved quickly
I wouldn’t be a school bus driver for any amount of money an hour. You have to remember they don’t work very many hours a day so their day is all broken up and then having to put up with some of those untamed kids is not worth it. You can tell the ones that come from a home where the parent(s) enforces any kind of obedience training or taught any kind of respect for anyone or anything, and the ones who don’t.
