Rotarians are “People of Action” and more than 1,300 members in Rotary clubs across Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore are uniting to fight hunger on the Delmarva Peninsula. The 39 Rotary clubs in District 7630 are gearing up for an October 16, 2021 Day of Service through the Meals of Hope program.
The Lower Eastern Shore Rotary clubs are seeking 120 community and club volunteers to help with the packaging of 60,000 meals on the morning of Saturday, October 16 at the Emmanuel Church Salisbury.
On the Lower Eastern Shore, the Rotary Club of Salisbury, the Rotary Club of Wicomico County, the Salisbury Sunrise Rotary Club, the Rotary Club of Snow Hill, the Ocean City-Berlin Rotary Club, and the Pocomoke City Rotary Club have raised more than $15,000 to buy the food from the national Meals of Hope program, at a cost of approximately 25 cents per meal. Now, the clubs are recruiting volunteers, Rotarians and non-Rotarians alike, to package the meals on October 16. The meals will be provided to The Maryland Food Bank for distribution through its network of partners.
Community members, businesses, religious organizations, and others that would like to support the effort are invited to contribute time as partners in this event.
Volunteers will be needed on Saturday, October 16 from 8:30 a.m. through noon at the Emmanuel Church, 217 Beaglin Park Drive, near the corner of Business Route 50 and Beaglin Park Drive on the east side of Salisbury. Volunteers will help package the meals, weigh the packages, seal them, label them, and transfer them to containers to ship them to The Maryland Food Bank.
