“Whatever they do, I will come back, and I won’t stop trying until I get in,” Leonardo Velasquez Centeno, 25, told The Post. The Honduran is one of 1.1 million-plus would-be illegal migrants caught by US agents in the Biden administration’s first 7½ months. No one really knows how many have evaded capture.
President Joe Biden and others keep saying they’re working to stop it, but his actions — and, even more so, his inactions — suggest the opposite. Certainly, his party’s large left wing believes we should be letting everyone in, that the country can absorb millions and even grant them citizenship at the first opportunity.
Indeed, they expect those new citizens to be loyal Democratic voters.
After all, the surge began when Biden made good on his campaign promises and eased many Trump-era restrictions — a message that the masses clearly heard as “Come on in.”
They are mostly single adults (though more unaccompanied children than ever are also part of the wave). And most come from the “Northern Triangle” nations of Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala. But it’s Ecuador too, now surpassing Mexico as the No. 1 source of illegal crossers. Apprehensions from all nations in Central and South America are way up — heck, they include nearly 25,000 Brazilians.
Most are not fleeing violence. Rather, reports Dave Seminara, they are “seeking higher-paying jobs and more generous welfare benefits and … think we’ll let them stay now that Sheriff Joe Biden is in charge.”
And the tide hasn’t stopped, contrary to the president’s months-ago lie that this was just the normal seasonal surge. Indeed, every month sets new records for migrants caught — and, most likely, of migrants not caught (though, again, it’s impossible to know).
