Sheriff Lewis files for Re-Election

On September 2, 2021, Sheriff Mike Lewis officially filed to seek a fifth term as the Sheriff of Wicomico County. According to Sheriff Lewis this was an easy decision after seeing the office’s successes against both drug traffickers and violent criminals.
Sheriff Lewis has proudly served as our sheriff since first winning election back in 2006 and is extremely proud of the hard work that has been undertaken by the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office who have strived every day to keep both our residents and visitors safe in our incredible county. Sheriff Lewis stated “when I began I had a simple goal: to make Wicomico County the best place to live for our hard working citizens and the worst place to live for criminals that were intent on preying on our citizens, especially our youth.”
Over the last 15 years, Sheriff Lewis has overseen the expansion of both the duties and responsibilities of our deputies along with significant technological upgrades and an increase in the diversity of new hires. Under Sheriff Lewis’ watch, he has overseen the implementation of our own Criminal Investigative Division, the Collision Reconstruction Unit and the only Motorcycle Unit on the Eastern Shore. In addition to these new units, the Sheriff has augmented and updated both the Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team and our K-9 unit to make them some of the largest and most respected examples in this part of our state. The Sheriff also regularly touts the success of the Community Action Team, a team that was established back in 2014, solely to address the opioid crisis within Wicomico County and the Quality of Life issues associated with drug dealing.
When it came to technology, the Sheriff immediately set about bringing the Office of Sheriff into the 21st Century with the implementation of Mobile Data Terminals and In-Car Camera Systems for all patrol cars. We have also expanded our camera program to equip every deputy with a body worn camera.
While implementing a coordinated effort of proactive enforcement, education and prevention, Wicomico County has been able to tackle the problem of illicit drugs in our community which has yielded a significant reduction in opioid related overdoses.  “As your Sheriff, I will continue to fight the decriminalization of illicit drugs such as Heroin and Cocaine. Together, we have made incredible progress but hard work and challenges remain. I am committed to both the citizens and success of Wicomico County and that is why I am seeking to be re-elected as your Sheriff.  I will continue to seek out and employ a diverse group of men and women who reflect the communities we serve while working alongside them every day for the continued enrichment and betterment of those we serve.  I remain most appreciative and humbled by your support.

  1. Much success to Mike Lewis I hope he wins the election. He is the best just wish we could replace Jacob Day as Mayor, and Barbara Duncan as Chief of Police. Without Mike we’d have zero. And another City Festival approaching more putting lipstick on the pig, grandstanding for looks. This will bring more crime to an area riddled with drugs and deplorable housing, and absentee landlords & slumbers. What a great place for a festival I hope they see the boarded up houses, furniture in the yards & porches, untagged vehicles, trailers, boats, metal in the front yards. WELCOME TO THE GHETTO!!!!

  2. The two we need to replace are William McCain and Josh Hastings who do not support Sheriff Lewis. If you voted for either one of them, you voted against Sheriff Lewis.
