Third officer who defended US Capitol on January 6 dies by suicide

A D.C. Metropolitan Police Department officer who helped defend the U.S. Capitol building took his own life last week, the department confirmed Monday – the third officer to respond to the Capitol riot to do so since January.

An MPD spokeswoman said Officer Gunther Hashida had been found dead at his residence last Thursday. Hashida, who joined the department in May 2003, was most recently assigned to the department’s Emergency Response Team. According to his obituary, posted by the Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home in Dale City, Virginia, Hashida would have turned 44 this Thursday.

“We are grieving as a department as out thoughts and prayers are with Officer Hashida’s family and friends,” the department said in a written statement.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) also released a statement Monday afternoon calling Hashida a hero who risked his life for “our very Democracy:”

“On behalf of the House of Representatives, I send deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Metropolitan Police Department Officer Gunther Hashida.

  1. So we can expect more suicides with gunshots to the back of the head? espically if they go against the current marxist kangaroo court jan 6 investigation..kinda like the warren commision, 911 panel, trumps russia investigation… all insiders investigation that cover up the real truth?

  2. Don’t mean to be cold, but if he had done this 01-05-21 you wouldn’t hear about it and Lube Girl would not have known. So I guess “they” are relating this to the protest. It’s ludicrous to say that. And, the big black guy wearing a uniform is saying he is being bullied with name calling on social media. Don’t this guys go to the academy? They do advise you will be called everything imaginable and you are not to take it to heart. There wasn’t a charge for name calling. That’s only in 1st grade. It’s time to man up boys. I know you can’t be that sensitive wearing a shield, so what are the damorat’s dangling in front of you for the show? R.I.P. Officer Hashida

    1. I don’t believe any of these three officers killed themselves. I think they were going to tell the truth about what happened and they met an untimely death. But, I also believe the election was stolen, so what do I know? 🙂
