A Viewer Writes: Salisbury City Government

I recently learned of a city worker who had been diagnosed with covid. While she was recovering she became ill with another problem which requires more recovery time. The city then verbally told her that she would either have to resign or be fired. This sounded a little drastic to me. Can anyone relate this type of experience happening to them? Is this type of action really legal?

  1. If you’re out longer than 12 weeks you can be let go for job abandonment.. In Maryland you can be fired for no reason , Democrats talk a good game but always screw the people

  2. Can’t they use the Family and Medical Leave Act. I don’t think an employer can fire you if you take leave.

  3. Wow….from a gov’t standpoint (Fed/State/Local) there are policies/guidance that are far different than private industry.

This type of illness situation (retire/fired) could be very costly from a legal standpoint.

Could be other “challenges” (i.e., performance/workplace conduct) which could be an underlying factor. Just with the information presented (COVID), slippery slope if the gov’t is trying to parlay performance since there are properly requirements to document poor performance and terminate an employee.

  4. I am of the opinion that this town has leaders that are not qualified to be in some of the positions. But, I also would like to see proof of something of this nature, before even considering it to be factual.
