Former Vanderbilt and Princeton professor Dr. Carol Swain sat down with “Fox & Friends First” Friday to discuss the decision made by the NFL to again play the “Black National Anthem” before kickoff. The NFL made the decision last year to play the song following a turbulent summer filled with riots and social unrest.
DR. SWAIN: I think it unnecessarily politicizes a game that traditionally has brought Americans together and it represents a capitulation of the NFL to the most radical elements in our society. It is divisive and it has no place in sports. And when you think about sports and football in particular, that has been an area for Blacks where you had a meritocracy, that Black players have been pretty successful. And this is something that will drive away supporters and it does nothing to unite our nation.
Won’t impact the game. Kickoff still 1:05pm for the early games. Just means earlier festivities in stadiums that the networks won’t cover eventually. First couple of weeks I’m sure, then POOF its gone. Need that commercial revenue over an extra anthem.
Plus the NFL will hear it from all nationalities eventually and then what are they gonna do? Start the anthem parade even earlier leading up to the AMERICAN NATIONAL ANTHEM 5 minutes before 1pm to fit the TV timeslot.
All about the benjamins.
I waiting for the name of the first person to be assaulted for sitting and ignoring the black theme song.
NFL? What’s that?
I stopped watching football (indie all pro sports) when this silly garbage started. I’m quite sure that my viewership and any money I would spend on memorabilia will not be missed in the least, but what if the average American just walked away from all sports sort of like how Kroger walked away and closed stores when liberal legislators demanded and passed a mandatory $4.00/raise.
