Republican Eastern Shore Congressman Andy Harris announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has committed to stop and dredge in Ocean City in late July.
“Ocean City is a beacon for boating recreation and recreational and commercial fishing, and this dredging work will alleviate the very consistent concerns I hear from my constituents,” said Harris. “I remain committed to ensuring that projects like this receive proper consideration and funding in Congress.”
In some areas, the inlet is as shallow as 1.4 feet. That causes some recreational and commercial fishermen to have to find a different route.
The Corps will be in town for 48 hours of inlet work from 29.
Has any one heard when more dredging will be done around Tangier Island it was stopped and the waters are getting higher and higher they are at 3′ above sea level now, the trees are rapidly dying as their roots are in salt water and the only president that aided the island was Trump. Politics has stopped protection of this country and is killing all future.
Needed for White Marlin in August. Can’t have MJ’s boat get caught on a sand bar!
HA HA to the ongoing OC parking kiosk drama. A software glitch prior to the July 4th “fun” charged customers multiple times. The City shut down paid parking on the 5th and 6th and project a revenue loss of $20,000. The glitch has been repaired and refunds being issued.
Hmmmmmmm……
There is no fixing the inlet silting issue without extending the north jetty AND dredging the sand of the new beach that it catches and dumping it just south of the south jetty building BACK the beach of Assateague were it belongs.
Since the north jetty was put in place, it has captured all of the sand that is now the inlet parking lot and beach.
The south jetty captures the sand flowing around the end of the north jetty (now full and useless as it’s original purpose, with inlet parking lot and beach) and funnels it into the inlet and back bay on incoming tides Thus STEALING the migrating sand from the north end of Assateague were nature intended it to go and filling the inlet and back bay.
Man made problem by the Ocean City leaders as usual……
