The primary race for New York City’s mayor is quickly getting national attention as a possible trend for the rest of the country.
Democrat candidate Eric Adams wins a field of a dozen, but, as a former police officer, Adams is pushing for law and order.
The progressive candidate, Maya Wiley, finished third.
Here in Baltimore, where high crime is reality, Mayor Scott ran his campaign on reducing the police budget.
Baltimore police are following City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby’s policy of not prosecuting crimes she has deemed low level.
Political Analyst John Dedie joined the morning show to discuss if many are putting too much weight on if this race is a good way to predict voters’ moods around the country.
“I don’t think so I think probably the happiest person about this race after Eric Adams was probably Joe Biden because the Democratic Party has been getting themselves boxed in on, ‘Defund the police,’ and, “You are not tough enough on crime,'” said Dedie. “Electing a Democrat who is a former police official in a major metropolitan city can only help.”
Dedie says New York City may not be the bastion of liberalism as it may appear to be to many on the outside-looking-in.
Based on other accounts of NYC and Eric Adams, he’s been like a weathervane across his careers; could give Kerry flip-flop lessons. He’s an anti-police ex-cop and NYC is getting played. Difference is that press/media really hasn’t challenged him on these repeated inconsistencies. And he sees much/most through the lens of race. NYC will continue toward the drain if he’s elected. And he’s the ‘most’ responsible Dem candidate.
In Baltimore, police can arrest to their heart’s content, it’s SA Mosby who is choosing not to prosecute a wide variety of crimes she deems unworthy of pursuing in court. Where this falls out is rather than being ‘victimless’ many of these offenses have real victims with real injuries to person or property. If cops won’t arrest or investigate, and SA won’t take the case, some citizens will seek their own street-level resolution, and that probably won’t include probation. So the cycle will continue. On purpose. Black woman determined to have a host of motly black, mostly young males killed in furtherance of her career and fortune.
