ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today announced $13 million in salary increases for employees who are charged with the care and custody of inmates within Maryland’s correctional facilities. This follows the administration’s announcement last week of increased salaries for new hires into these critical positions.
These salary enhancements are designed to enhance the state’s ability to compete in an area that has seen recruitment challenges despite many innovative efforts to hire correctional officers.
“This is vital work and the individuals who maintain the security of our correctional institutions and oversee the work of inmates deserve recognition for performing this challenging job,” said Governor Hogan. “I am pleased to be able to offer these increases, which are well-deserved.”
The state was able to reach agreement with the exclusive representative of these employees, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, within a very short period.
Too Little Toooooo Late !!!!! Hogan don’t deserve ANY !!!! The ones of the past were treated like shhht !!!!
Well all the Co’s of the past got screwed , since they only got Half the pay these new Rookies Get ( after they did
20 years of service ) !!! Not Right
So increase the Retirement Pay for these Co’s instead of paying New Rookies too much !!!!
It took me & others 20 fkkking years to make the damn pay they are starting out Rookies on today !!!!

what about officers that have been there for years. pay them what they are supposed to be paid. if you start now that will be the last increase you will get as a new hire with the state. in fact they will figure how to take away from you such as increase in your insurance.
Tell you what. Give out that $13 million then count it against how many new
correctional officer disability claims are paid out in the next five years.

This job is run by rules starting with AFFIRMATIVE ACTION, DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WHITE MALE OFFICERS, FAVORITISM and SEXUAL HARASSMENT against WHITE MALE OFFICERS with lies and setups by UNPROFESSIONAL SUPERVISORS, SUPERVISORS do not know the job descriptions to manage others, Supervisors bring in just as much contraband as the line Officers if not more., These crooked SUPERVISORS would rather discipline / fire you than train you properly and assist you in being a better PROFESSIONAL OFFICER.
Now tell me you want to work in this crooked atmosphere?
I speak these truths as a 22 year retiree from this crooked STATE AGENCY.
PS: the Maryland jails have always been run by the INMATES, since the SUPERVISORS would / will never allow you to do your job as a PROFESSIONAL.

He’s full of shit. For the longest time state wouldn’t hire any CO’S. They all were working alot of overtime. They still are. Now he’s decided to put on a show like he’s doing something. This guy is such a con.
Why take a crappy job like this, just stay home and get your free money that the government is so anxious to give away.
I have been a state correctional officer for a number of years and it has been very rewarding to me and my family. I am thankful for the retirement plan as well as the health benefits you earn while working there. People who are negative about this job I am sure are having no problem collecting their retirement checks and benefits. Be thankful for what you have.

My husband retired as correctional officer here and never made the money these new guys are making it isn’t fair $ needs to be put in for the ones that retired from ECI and other Md Prisons. Just like the police they have been disrespected and underpaid for years.

The Officer’s job is to Correct the prisoners while they are in , even if it means keeping them in Longer !!!
The Administration is on the prisoner’s side therefore , & against it’s own officers !!!
They try to intimidate them & kick back the Tickets they write , & try to get the prisoners off all the time !!!!
They train officers by trying to burn them , accusing them of whatever they can come up with !!!!
