Petition calling for monthly $2,000 stimulus checks nears 2.5M signatures

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Change.org petition calling for recurring stimulus checks from the federal government has reached nearly 2.5 million signatures.

Denver restaurant owner Stephanie Bonin created the petition which calls for a monthly $2,000 per month check to every American as many remain unemployed and the economic effects of the pandemic linger.

The petition, which will be sent to Congress, currently has 2.456 million signatures with the goal of reaching 3 million to become one of the top petitions hosted on the site.

Bonin’s petition states: “Our country is still deeply struggling. The recovery hasn’t reached many Americans – the true unemployment rate for low-wage workers is estimated at over 20% and many people face large debts from last year for things like utilities, rent and child care. These are all reasons that checks need to be targeted to people who are still struggling and that Congress needs to learn from this past year. It took nine months for Congress to send a second stimulus check, and just moments to spend it. Moving forward Congress needs to make recurring checks automatic if certain triggers are met. No more waiting around for our government to send the help we need. Sign to join our movement to get recurring checks to the people.”

  1. And they want grandma and grandpa to pay for it … notice you never hear about any help for our seniors on Social Security or still working… You should be able to retire at 60 if you are a blue collar worker

  2. Give me strength. All you signers to this petition need to get off your ass and go find a job and quit depending on the government. Why the hell do you think you are being controlled now. Use your damn heads for something besides a hat rack.

  3. Thought the restaurant boss woman was having trouble hiring due to non workers at the government trough. People throw the term government around just like politicians. They know damn well government equals the working people paying the tab. Working people can not pay non workers. Get off your fat lazy asses and you will live the American Dream. You don’t need a mansion, a family dwelling that is kept clean and tidy, with a bit of food on the table and a good condition pre-owned vehicle. That is the dream, not luxury. Too many want entitlements from every source available and there are plenty of those wasteful things that may well be luxury.

  4. Get a job , live within your means, don’t spend money you don’t have, give praise to the lord and pray for the best but don’t be disappointed if you get less.

  5. This is ridiculous to give this money away with no accountability or payback by making them get a job or two to support themselves. These people are a bunch of lazy manipulative con artist.

The government wants to give these bums all this money but wants to cut / alter SSI for seniors.

    Total MARXISM

  6. Dream On !!!! Govt don’t even want you to have your Current Stimulus & trys to take it back EARLY !!!!!

  7. Give them out as a 0% loan. You should be able to opt out, but if you opt in, you have to pay it back.

  8. Next are the baby factorys ( those who had too many ) Their Stimulus Giveaway starts this month in July !!!!!!

  9. Seniors on social security are the ones who should be getting some help. The cost of living and everything in it goes up and S.S. goes up a big ole 1% cost of living raise.I wish I could afford to tell them to shove that 1% raise up their A$$ES

  10. What seniors have to live on with social security is a disgrace. Not everyone is getting a pension from a previous job. You try living on SS alone and see just how fun it is. It’s getting worse by the day since Biden got in. We need a much higher SS raise than 1%.
