Is Worcester library indoctrinating kids?

Is the Worcester County Library AGAIN using taxpayer money to promote left-wing ideology.  (We stood up to them – – and won – – when they tried to hold anti-Trump seminars there)

From a local paper: Worcester County Commissioner Chip Bertino expressed concerns this week about the Read Woke program currently offered at the Worcester County Library. He said the program had been funded by a group that appeared to be connected to Black Lives Matter.“I don’t believe our library should be endorsing any political organization one way or the other,” Bertino said.

Here’s a sample of some of the recommended reading on the children’s list:

“If I was your girl” — Amanda Hardy only wants to fit in at her new school, but she is keeping a big secret, so when she falls for Grant, guarded Amanda finds herself yearning to share with him everything about herself, including her previous life as Andrew.

“Let’s talk about love” — In this young adult novel, Alice, afraid of explaining her asexuality, has given up on finding love until love finds her. Alice’s last girlfriend, Margo, ended things when Alice confessed she’s asexual. Now Alice is sure she’s done with dating … and then she meets Takumi. She can’t stop thinking about him or the rom-com-grade (romantic comedy) romance feelings she did not ask for. When her blissful summer takes an unexpected turn and Takumi becomes her knight with a shiny library-employee badge, Alice has to decide if she’s willing to risk their friendship for a love that might not be reciprocated– or understood.

“I wish you all the best” — When Ben De Backer comes out to their parents as nonbinary, they’re thrown out of their house and forced to move in with their estranged older sister, Hannah, and her husband, Thomas, whom Ben has never even met. Struggling with an anxiety disorder compounded by their parents’ rejection, they come out only to Hannah, Thomas, and their therapist and try to keep a low profile for the last half of senior year in a new school. Then fellow student Nathan Allan decides to take Ben under his wing. As Ben and Nathan’s friendship grows, their feelings for each other begin to change. It might just be a chance to start a happier new life.

“Girl made of stars” — When Mara’s twin brother Owen is accused of rape by her friend Hannah, Mara is forced to confront her feelings about her family, her sense of right and wrong, a trauma from her past, and the future with her girlfriend, Charlie.

You get the idea . . . have the kiddies read that Amanda was once Andrew, Alice is asexual (?), Ben is nonbinary (?), and Mara is a lesbian with a girfriend named Charlie and a twin brother who is accused of rape, but don’t have them read how great America is or how they should respect the police.

Contact the county commissioners at commissioners@co.worcester.md.us and tell them that our taxpayer money should not be used to promote left-wing ideology (or for that matter, any political ideology).  And thank Commissioner Bertino for speaking up on this matter.

  1. Dear readers,

As we are all aware, all throughout our nation our very way of American life is being attacked. Daily we all see and hear stories about Critical Race Theory, BLM and Antifa and their anarchist ways, and now this. I know that not only the county commissioners as well as various library employees read this site, and given the recent press coverage regarding this issue. In short, they use this news site as well as others to take a temperature of the local populace as a way to gauge agendas.

To this end, I personally object to my tax dollars being used for this purpose, along with the library applying for grants from organizations that have a particular political purpose.

In short, there is no way that I would ever support tax dollars to purchase and advertise programs and materials that target children. There is no way that I want my tax dollars spent on less than 1% of the populace that is attempting to force this issue, among others, down the throats of everyone else. What individuals do in the privacy of their own homes is none of my business, but when they intentionally target students and children this way, it amounts to coercion and in my opinion, child abuse.

Mr. Bertino, I applaud your efforts to make the community voices heard and known. Mr. Mitrecic, I do not share your opinion, and wish you to recognize that you answer to the community. When you make statements (like you did to close the debate/discussion on this issue) you very clearly give the message to your constituents that you are not listening to the majority.

As a Christian, father, concerned community member, and very proud American I would encourage all who are concerned to respond by emailing your commissioners and share your viewpoints.

To those who feel that materials like this should be placed into accessible places for children (such as schools and libraries), it is in no way your place to push your agendas on others, and especially not our children.

    Respectfully,

    Paladin

  2. Library’s are fast becoming a haven for the LGBT looneys. Just don’t use them. There’s plenty of other resources now for information. I see them becoming obsolete in the future.
