Virginia lawmakers ban police use of facial recognition technology

Last month, Virginia lawmakers quietly passed one of the most restrictive bans in the country on the use of facial recognition technology.

The legislation, which won unusually broad bipartisan support, prohibits all local law enforcement agencies and campus police departments from purchasing or using facial recognition technology unless it is expressly authorized by the state legislature.

But now, some law enforcement officials are asking Gov. Ralph Northam to put the brakes on the legislation, arguing that it is overly broad and hasn’t been thoroughly vetted.

Aird said she drafted the bill in response to an investigation by The Virginian-Pilot newspaper that found some gang detectives in the Norfolk Police Department had been using a controversial facial recognition app  by Clearview AI to identify suspects in criminal investigations, without the knowledge of city leaders.

  1. Another tool gone that helped get the bad apples. Unfortunately we are human and prone to errors. Meaning snowflakes – a few used this tech in the wrong way. Its always a few who ruin it for all.

  2. Being a democrat should seriously be a clinical mental disease. I sometimes try to rationalize with their beliefs and understand where they are coming from but I always come to the same conclusion. I just can’t fathom how someone who is supposedly a functioning adult can support any of the nonsensical ideology of the democratic party. Not only that they believe it, but it somehow makes sense to them.
The best way to describe it is rabies. Democrats are like wild animals with rabies. Everything about them is irrational. Their brains and thoughts are scrambled and they can’t function properly. They don’t know they have it and everything seems normal to them. The worst part is that it seems to be more contagious than actual rabies.
