The leading Democrat candidate to become New York City’s next mayor said he will shun private security and carry a firearm for his safety.
“Yes I will, No. 1,” Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said in January 2020 when asked if he would keep his firearm if elected mayor.
“And No. 2, I won’t have a security detail. If the city is safe, the mayor shouldn’t have a security detail with him. He should be walking the street by himself,” he added.
Adams is leading a crowded field of candidates to be New York City’s next mayor. According to local polling of the race, the gun-toting candidate has 21% support, beating out the 18% support currently held by former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang.
A former New York City Police Department captain, Adams doesn’t take a stance on guns traditionally associated with the Democratic Party and has even said that police officers should carry their sidearms when not on duty:
“If we have officers who are trained on how to respond to emergencies, how to move people to safety, how to properly use a firearm — if they’re leaving those firearms at home, I’m saying to them, stop leaving your firearms at home,” Adams said at the time. “Do as I do: Bring your firearm to church.”
The man makes a good point even if he is a damorat.
So he said that in Jan 2020 – bet he has a different tune now!
