The funeral for fallen Police officer Cpl. Keith Heacook is today. Cpl Heacook will be laid to rest in his hometown in Delaware.
Hundreds of police officers from Maryland, Delaware and other states, as well as community members whom Heacook served for more than 20 years are expected to attend.
“He’s a devoted father, husband, son,” said Ron Snyder, a spokesman for the Maryland State Police.
Streets around Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Salisbury will be closed by 4 a.m. in preparation of the hundreds expected to attend.
“Whenever this happens, whether it be a police officer in this case, a firefighter or trooper, the community rallies together and wants to make sure that we do all we can to ensure that everyone pays the proper respects to a fallen hero like this,” Snyder said.
There will be a public viewing from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, followed by a funeral service about 12:20 p.m. at the church, 217 Beaglin Park Dr.
Several people have rallied to raise money in Heacook’s honor. Country musician Jimmie Allen will hold a concert for his family Monday.
Maryland State Police already have raised $20,000 for Heacook’s 12-year-old son.
This is just such a tragic situation and I cannot fathom how his wife and son must feel. Prayers and God bless.
I’ve lived here for 20 years and this breaks my heart. I’m so glad that this community honors Officer Heacook the way that they have. I pray for his family, his son in particular. We need to do more to fund the police so that this NEVER happens again!
This happened in Delaware, any words today from Biden? how about you Carney?
No problem making comments about George Floyd, but not our fallen hero – Shameful!
“the community rallies together”?!?!?! No, it doesn’t. There are people in this community, at the local government and state government level, and certainly people at the federal level who could careless about Col Heacook.
Had the black drugged out criminal been killed, you know damn well National news, black leaders and white daughters would be marching in the streets of Salisbury and Delmar shouting “Hands up, don’t shoot”.
Where is Biden? Carney? I guess its because the cop was killed instead of the criminal so there’s no conversation to be had…I suppose
God Bless Cpl. Keith Heacook and his family!
Cpl Heacook’s service was just a beautiful tribute to him and very distinguished . He deserved to have that kind of service. What he didn’t deserve is the reason for the service. RIP Cpl Heacook. Prayers to the family.
Sucks to see local Delmar business people jump on this to self promote themselves and their business , seems to a pattern with one of them …. how selfish
