Is Progressive Prosecution Impacting Violent Crime in Baltimore?

It’s been more than a month since the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office announced their progressive pandemic policies would become permanent.

Marilyn Mosby is no longer prosecuting certain crimes she calls low level including prostitution, trespassing and drug possession.

She says the move will allow police to focus on violent crime.

May is starting with more violence in Baltimore.

The 101st murder victim in the city found Sunday morning, a man dead in the street in the city’s southwest district from blunt force trauma.

It took only four months for Baltimore to reach 100 murders.

That grim milestone coming a week earlier than last year.

“Follow the data. What we’ve been able to prove in the past year is that crime has decreased,” city state’s attorney Marilyn Mosby said in March.

She says violent crime went down 20% from March last year to March 2021 and property crime decreased 36%.

“Clearly the data suggests that there is no public safety value in prosecuting these low level offenses,” Mosby said.

Murders and shootings are up in the city.

The latest data from Baltimore police shows murders are up 14% year to date. Non-fatal shootings are up 7%.

The city is on pace to see even more deadly violence than last year when 335 people lost their lives.

“Ever since she took office, murders exploded in Baltimore. There have been over 300 every year since she took office. It was in the 200s before that,” says Cully Stimson, a senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation.

  1. It has been good news to the Johns and the girls, now they can finely enjoy each other’s company without govt. interference like a civilized nation.

  2. I refuse too and I have forbidden my family members to visit Baltimore for any reason whatsoever!! The animals and their elected criminal politicians can have it all!!!

  3. Is she basing here “crime is down” statement on arrests/convictions? If she’s not prosecuting, that would naturally bring the number down. Isn’t that why salisbury always reduces charges to make things appear better than they are for prospective SU students?

  4. Keep the insects in the lockup and that will slow violent crime down. But when you have jerks in California wanting to release third time felons to the street for a “second” chance, that they have already had if third time offenders, streets won’t be safe. These insects won’t be chained to California, the y can drift to Baltimore or a town near you. But that’s what you get when you don’t know how to vote.

  5. seems this is working out pretty good for population control certainly better than the vaccine so far

  6. I had to go to John’s Hopkins yesterday and the city is a sewer! Black thugs looking at you daring you to say something. Homeless vermin everywhere and poop all over the parking structure. It smelled of pee and poop. The only refreshing site was the scanty clad teens plying their trade on the street corners. The Mayor should be so proud of the city, NOT!
