  1. Wow I am shocked I have always thought that Mike & that department were a family at least the pictures and the number of years people worked there you would think so. Is this so with more that have left or just a personal attack the public needs to know. I am sorry for the way you were treated,and I thought the medical offices could be hateful, some great some really nasty.

  3. OK readers digest version of what happened. I got injured in the line of duty,(burglary in progress call) Return to work after surgery on light duty that was approved by the sheriffs office.A few months after working light duty there were four deputies on light duty including myself that was forced from our eight hour shifts that was already approved to a 12 hour shift in dispatch answering to a civilian(others were allowed to stay on eight hours for their lite duty )The sheriff exact words was what’s good for the goose is good for the gander everybody including my administrators will work 12 hour shifts in dispatch on light duty (another lie never happened.) I refresh my doctors note to remind them I was already approved for the eight hours not 12 hour shifts which was against my doctor orders. I was then told By one of the sheriffs captains that they have no light duty for me. I was the first Deputy in my time at that office ever was denied light duty. I sent a bulk email to the sheriff and everyone in his administration explaining to them the financial burden this is put on me by then putting me out without pay for three months waiting for my retirement to come through. I got injured in the line of duty and this is just not fair. I also detailed numerous things that I could continue doing that I was already doing on light duty that kept me busy every day .I got no response from neither one of them,not even one call or tex. I then applied for the county sick pool that I had put in for 18 years but have it put in to it for the last few. I was denied. Although another situation with another deputy that only was at our office a year and a half and never put in the county sick pool got approved for over 460 hours for an incident that happened when he was off duty at home. One of his first sgt told a cpl. at the office that the reason we were put to 12 hour shifts in dispatch is will either get back to work or quit. There is a lot more that I could say but I’m keeping it short. So finally my retirement came through and my wife and I made several request to the sheriff requesting my retirement badge and credentials. The sheriff would hardly respond to my wife or myself and it took over six months to get my badge and my credentials after my wife had to get pretty firm with the sheriff. I received a call shortly after from one of his captains for me to come into the office. He met me in the parking lot and handed me my stuff. The only thing that the captain could say was boy the comments your wife made really hurt. I asked that captain why it took six months to get my credentials why i was put out without pay all he did was shrug shoulders and walk away from me. Now leading up to a year after retirement I get a phone call from our incompetent HR department that they are kicking my wife off of my insurance in the middle of Covid pandemic. This all should be told to retirees when they retire not a year later in the middle of a pandemic so my wife went without insurance for sometime. I have called the county executives office numerous times only to get told that I have an attitude and he refuse to call me back. Well the reason I may have an attitude the county is overcharging retirees on their health insurance over $100 extra month they’re violating their own policy and procedure anyone that has a policy and procedure book with the county section 26 -2 very clear also the county administrator verbally told me that my health premiums would stay the same as a regular full-time employee just as the policy states. Another lie that the county has told. Also several of us got a Workmen’s Comp. settlement. Some reason the county feels they’re entitled to make us pay that back to them including interest which they are doing to me of and other deputies are roughly losing three to $400 a month in their pension due to the repayment of the Workmen’s Comp. settlement. I served Wicomico County for over 24 years retired in good standings and had good evaluations my whole career, just to be discarded like I was yesterday’s trash. In summary the sheriff pretends that he’s all against police reform when he and his administrators do the most harm to one of their own he’s always in Annapolis and across the bridge he should stay here and take care of the issues and problems within his office. what a hypocrite

Well when I got injured in the line of duty I never thougth I will be treated the way that I was by a sheriff that pretends he cares about his deputies and officers.I return from surgery to light duty presented a doctors note that they agreed upon. A few months into light duty one of the sheriffs captains decides to violate my doctors orders move me to 12 hour shifts in dispatch. When I told them I can’t work 12 hour shifts (against doctors orders and they already agreed to the note ) but I can rotate with a shift they denied me light duty and put me out of work three months without pay prior to my retirement coming through. Keep in mind I retired in good standings and had good evaluations my whole career. When the sheriff was question about the 12 hour shifts his remark was he was tired of people on light duty not working and that everybody that has to go on light duty from this point on was going to dispatch on 12 hour shifts his exact quote was what’s good for the goose is good for the gander my administration will work in dispatch on light duty also. this was another lie the sheriff told as four of us were working in dispatch on 12 hour shifts that were others in different areas on eight hour shifts working day work just as I was before. One of the sheriffs administrators told another supervisor that the reason the deputies were selected to go in to dispatch on 12 hour shifts is they were either come back to work or quit keep in mind all four of us got injured in the line of duty. When I was put out of work without pay for three months I applied for the county sick pool which I had contributed to for 18 years but have not contributed lately. I was denied. At the time our FOP lodge did absolutely nothing for me. Although there’s another deputy who was at our office for a year and a half that came from another agency never contributed to the sickleave pool and he was approved for 460 hours for an incident that occurred when he was off duty at home. I generated an email and sent to the sheriff and everyone of his administration explaining to them the financial burden being out without pay has put on me and my family and I gave a long list of detailed duties I could perform which I was already performing for my light duty status and that I did not ask to get injured in the line of duty. I receive no response from the sheriff or no one in his administration. It took the sheriff six months after several requests from myself and my wife to get me my retirement credentials. I received a call from one of his captains to come to the office upon my arrival I was met in the parking lot and handed my credentials. All the captain stated was the comment your wife made really hurt. I asked the captain why it took six months to get my credentials and why I was put out without pay he shrugged his shoulders and turned his back and walked away this is typical.So when I retired the HR administrator and the HR department told me that my health insurance would stay the same as a regular full-time employee which I already knew because it is in section 26-2 of the county manual. They are charging over $100 more per month direct violation of their own policy. The county is also making deputies who received a Workmen’s Comp. settlement pay that settlement back through deductions in their pension along with interest. What makes the county think they’re entitled to our settlement money due to our pain and suffering to the injuries that we received on duty. The sheriff is always across the bridge in Annapolis pretending he’s fighting for law-enforcement and trying to stand up against police reform when in fact he and his administrators are the ones doing the most harm to individuals. He is such a hypocrite. Maybe if the sheriff spent more time at his office instead of training and traveling all over the country being a politician we wouldn’t have as many issues and problems could get things taken care of for the deputies but why should he care he’s already retired from MSP.I’ve made several calls to the county executives office with no return calls from him the HR department does not know what they’re doing they’re incompetent. I retired over a year ago received a phone call about six weeks ago informing me that my wife was going to be dropped from my health insurance in the middle of a Covid pandemic. In summary I was the first deputy to get approved for 66 2/3 retirement tax free and it pissed him off they try to use me as a deterrent. Sam workman

    Your spelling, capitalization and grammar might be correct, Anon 8:27 but you’re still a coward for leaving your name off the post, go back to the corner you crawled from and kindly shut your mouth or be constructive and help out. There are a few deputies fighting this right now for the future of anyone else employed by the Sheriff who is injured in the line of duty. How does it make you feel that the people you may call in a time of need are being stolen from by the county? The Sheriff’s Office simply allows it to continue regardless of the fact that they are violating black and white policy. The tune of 400 dollars a month for getting hurt is absurd, illegal and of the lowest moral quality.

  6. Wicomico County (To be former Sheriff in the near future) Mike Lewis is is out the door! Making your deputies pay back worker’s compensation claims is ILLEGAL!!!! This absurdity is what the Feds need to get wind of! Mike Lewis, Gary Baker, Richard Wiersberg, Todd Richardson, Mark Wilson and Tim Robinson all need to go! They are the most corrupt cop supervisors on the Eastern Shore! They are true Scumbags for treating one of their own this way! Sad day in Wicomico County!

Him and Mike Lewis who both retired from the Maryland State Police are nothing more than retired on duty pricks with their overpaid county positions and they both do absolutely NOTHING for his county and I mean NOTHING!!!!! Time to clean out this Garbage!

You ask “WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON AT THE WICOMICO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE?” I am going to tell you what has been going on at the Sheriff’s Office which is plain and simple, “CORRUPTION!!!!” Getting paid to sit home and do nothing! Getting paid by county taxpaying dollars to go on speaking engagements and make more money from private entities!

  9. Sam I am so sorry you had to go through this situation. You are a good man and you were someone who worked very hard for the citizens of Wicomico County. Thank You for standing up to this corruption and abuse of office! Used and abused by Sheriff Mike Lewis! Lewis will be gone in the future due to his gross arrogance and ignorance to his own people. He should of never been elected to this position in the first place! He had way too many skeletons in his closet that should of been dragged out by now but which will be dragged out shortly to expose him for what he is!! Goodbye Mikey not nice knowing you punk!!!

  10. Wicomico County Deputies need to rise up and have a vote of NO CONFIDENCE in their duly elected Sheriff!!! They will get my vote against this arrogance and blatant disregard for County rules and policies! This Sheriff’s Office does what they want without any accountability and has been declining in service the past couple of years. It seems when a complaint is called in no one wants to even do their job. This response is due in fact to low morale and work ethic which evolves from the top which is a “I do not care attitude” that reflects down the ranks! If the top doesn’t care, the bottom ranks will not either!!!! It shows in service to this community! I have personally experienced this.

    But the Charter Review Committee, controlled by the Greater Salisbury Committee (Dunn, Sarbanes, Tilghman) won’t even consider that.

  15. Agreed 7:24PM that the Wicomico County Executive Office needs and will be abolished by the voters! Dunn will be DONE if he tries to save it! This office was a severe abuse of power when Bob Culver was the Executive. I have and many citizens of Wicomico County agree to rid this county of this needless expediture!

An excellent attorney out of Baltimore, MD. that handles cases of mismanagement, gross negligence and just plain non-compliance of county department rules, laws and codes at a place of employment is Andrew Alperstein at 201 North Charles Street, Suite 2000, Baltimore, MD. 21201. Any Deputies or class action lawsuits that need to be filed who would like to retain Mr. Alperstein’s services can call him at 1 (410) 685-0990 Monday thru Friday! He specializes in cases of ignorance by county department heads such as the ones stated on this blog.

  21. Sam Workman is correct. The Human Resources department is a joke. Curry is a joke! Not qualified to do the job. At least the last lady in charge that resembled a hooker was softer on the eyes. I agree boot Lewis and Psota down the street. Time to get rid of this C.E. bullshit and carry friggen Paul “will not go away” Wilber with the rest of the double dipping leeches too.
