Delmarva Delegation Announces $1 Million Grant to Salisbury Airport

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., and Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (all Maryland) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a sizable $1,023,818 federal grant to the Salisbury – Ocean City – Wicomico Regional Airport.  Funding for this grant came from the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act, which passed in December of 2020.  According to DOT, these dollars will be used for economic relief for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at the airport.

The Members issued the following statement:

“The Salisbury Airport is a critical infrastructure hub for the Delmarva Peninsula and Maryland’s Eastern Shore.  We’re glad these additional funds have been allocated to offset some of the revenue lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  We remain committed to ensuring businesses and our local communities are able to stay afloat and get back on their feet after the severe hardship they have endured the past year.”

The Salisbury Airport is a growing regional destination for quick access to the Ocean City beaches and greater Delmarva.  Over the last 15 years, they have reconstructed and expanded their runway, with plans for further extension to accommodate larger commercial aircraft in the near future.  American Airlines is the primary commercial carrier of SBY.

  1. How about widening the road, and putting a turn lane both ways so people aren’t going 20mph try to find the entrance, or slamming on the brakes going 40mph when they see it. And a damn big ass sign out there telling them, instead of that little sign that just says Terminal. The sign is right on top of where you turn. Put it back up the road and say Terminal Entrance second right. C’mon Airport get out of Mayberry. There is no sign if your coming from Johnson Rd, like no one is coming from that direction to the Airport. Geez. Morons.

  2. I call Bullshit! back in the late 80’s two (2) airlines served this airport. now? one!
critical infrastructure? what a freaking joke. what purpose does it serve? what is flown in and out of there that is so critical? just cause you say so doesn’t mean it is!
Thanks Andy, while our country is going broke you serve up more pork to the worthless government entities!

  3. Those idiots should use that money for county wide water and sewer. We are sick and tired of our elected Morons trying to force the City of Salisbury on us. They are too damn lame to understand the voting taxpayers don’t want to be annexed into the City of Salisbury and be governed by Jake Day, Jake Heath, Manure Bota and Michele Gregory. The County Elected Morons that voted for the pre-annexation agreement with Salisbury need to be run out of office as soon as possible. Annexation into Salisbury means double taxes and now a water and sewer bill to the City of Salisbury. Vote them Clowns out of office now.
