Two California teenagers who admitted to beating classmate to death given no jail time by judge

Two California juvenile boys charged with the fatal beating of a fellow middle school student will not receive any jail time.

Riverside County Superior Court Judge Roger A. Luebs ordered the two 14-year-old defendants who admitted to killing Diego Stolz in 2019 to perform 150 hours of community service and “participate in various programs specifically tailored toward their rehabilitative needs,” according to Fox 11 Los Angeles.

Stolz, who was 13 at the time of his death, was beaten and killed at Landmark Middle School on Sept. 16, 2019, and died nine days later after suffering head trauma from falling and hitting his head on a pillar during the attack.

The two perpetrators, whose names have been withheld because they are minors, admitted to the killing, but the judge determined they did not intend to kill Stolz and believed that the probation department was pushing for jail time based on public outrage rather than rehabilitation.

“The idea that they didn’t go to youth prison shouldn’t be seen as giving them a slap on the wrist. Actually, they’re going to have a lot of work to do to eventually complete their probation, which probably won’t end until their 18th birthday,” defense attorney David Wohl said about the ruling. “The probation wanted them to be sent to DJJ, which is the youth prison, which was not appropriate for 13-year-olds.”

  1. The loss of life and what the victim suffered is heartbreaking. The punishment certainly doesn’t fit the crime. Where has accountability gone?

  2. the only time you will ever see accountability for a crime of this nature is to do it your self! you waiting for the corrupt politicians, judges, police to do it for you? good luck with that!
