Howard County ends contract with ICE that allowed immigration detainees to be housed at detention center

Howard County is ending its 26-year contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that allowed immigration detainees to be housed at the detention center in Jessup, according to documents from the Howard County Office of Law.

At the direction of County Executive Calvin Ball, the Howard County Detention Center sent written notice of its intent to terminate the contract on Friday.

Ending the contract requires 60 days’ notice, the documents state, and so the seven ICE detainees currently in the detention center must be removed “no later than May 18.”

This comes less than a week after Del. Vaughn Stewart’s “Dignity Not Detention Act” passed the Maryland House with a veto-proof majority. The legislation seeks to close Maryland’s three ICE detention centers and prohibit new ones from opening up. It also bans local governments and the state government from subsidizing the construction of any privately run immigration detention centers. The bill now moves to the state Senate for consideration.

  1. 50 states, 50 mindsets
Within those 50 states are XXX amount of counties/city municipalities

Of course a county has their right to say…excuse me but NO!
Of course a state has their right to say – NO

Jeopardy is lack of future federal funding.
Guess $$$ is not worth the pain/headache and rightfully so.

Last I checked – lots of empty land in Eastern California, AZ, NM, TX not to mention the plain states which are very flat. Alaska has roughly 600K residents and its HUGE landmass of a US state. Wyoming, ND, SD to name a few more. Optional and Reasonable areas way away from populated areas.

    Why not?

Money, too cold or away from people is the same answer spewed for decades. Viable options are better than old mindsets. Hell, thats why the USA is in this mess anyway.

(Not to mention OC with its real estate gluttony. Build build build….but I digress).

  2. So guess they will be coming to a town near you???..you can fix the stupidity of Md…move out let them fleece the illegals and marxists for any addtional funding and Lets see what Howard county looks like in 5 years!!
