While law enforcement, the National Guard, and the Marines are working to contain the mess in the Los Angeles area and, now, in some other major cities, some are beginning to wonder who’s bankrolling all this. The rebels are strangely well-equipped; many of them have what appear to be professionally printed signs and the like.
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) wants to know who’s behind the rioters and rebels, and he appears to have a group in his sights. On Wednesday, Senator Hawley announced an investigation into the dealings of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA)
The Senator’s letter to CHIRLA’s Executive Director, Angelica Salas, begins:
I write in my capacity as Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism regarding your organization’s alleged role in financing and materially supporting the coordinated protests and riots that have engulfed Los Angeles in recent weeks. While peaceful protest is a cornerstone of American democracy, these demonstrations have escalated into lawless mob actions. They have obstructed federal law enforcement, endangered public safety, and disrupted the rule of law. This lawlessness is unacceptable. It must end.
The Senator then goes on to list a series of documents that CHIRLA should preserve and make ready for review by the Subcommittee.
