House Republicans Release Statement in Response to the Downgrade of Maryland’s Bond Rating

ANNAPOLIS, MD – House Republicans today issued the following statement in response to the downgrading of Maryland’s bond rating.

“This should come as no surprise to anyone who has been paying attention to Maryland’s fiscal challenges,” said House Minority Leader Jason Buckel. “A year ago, Moody’s changed Maryland’s fiscal outlook to ‘negative’ due to our looming deficits and Blueprint spending. This was well before President Trump’s reelection and before any federal retrenchment. Foisting the blame anywhere but at the feet of the excessive spending championed by Maryland’s Democratic party is, at best, disingenuous. They have dramatically increased education spending with precious little to show for it. The state government has grown larger, with employee salaries increasing at a significant rate. They have expanded Medicaid to levels unimagined a decade ago. Neither our state’s economy, our tax base, nor our citizens’ wallets can support this level of spending. This has been obvious to the members of our Caucus, and it is obvious to the rating agencies.”

“Today’s news is sobering, but it is a direct result of decades of fiscal mismanagement by the Democratic supermajority in Annapolis and their obeisance to special interest groups like the state teachers’ union,” said House Minority Whip Jesse Pippy. “There have been ample opportunities to truly reduce Maryland spending, and they have been squandered. Maryland’s loss of its AAA bond rating is the culmination of the Democratic supermajority’s failure to responsibly govern. It is a travesty that, once again, it will be our taxpayers who will have to pay for this latest failure.”

  1. The whole country’s rating got downgraded, not just Maryland. This is all just dumb finger pointing.

  2. We all know why Maryland’s rating was downgraded. What can we expect when we go from a surplus to a deficit from just changing governors?

  3. Boy did that wipe the stupid smile off this face. I don’t trust anyone who smiles 24/7, glad I didn’t vote for him. Didn’t take him long to spend it.

  4. PG county, Monkey County, More and surroundings. YOU did this by electing Wes Wants Moore and the youngin Mayor of Charmed City. YOU elect trash, YOU continue to live in trash. Not to mention, YOU voted for that drunk Harris for Prez. The epitome of non qualified. Wes was giving billions in surplus, now the state is billions in the hole and lost its bond rating.

Keep bringing the state down everytime YOU vote. Just because a person can talk the talk at your level, laughing, giggling, clapping for preaching doesn’t me they can do the job.

    Sad.

  5. no one ever seems to learn these lesson, how many communities, towns, cities, states, countries are ruined once certain crowd takes over………DEMONICRATS! always about the grift!
