Rep. Al Green (D-TX) may be about to find out that actions have consequences, something that has been an all-too-rare occurrence of late for members of the Democrat Party (barring their electoral spanking on November 5, of course). Green, as RedState has been reporting, stood up at the beginning of President Trump’s Tuesday night speech to a joint session of Congress, obnoxiously began spouting some nonsense about Medicare, then was kicked out of the chamber when he refused to behave with even a modicum of maturity.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA), who was quick to bring order to the chamber, shared some thoughts Wednesday morning on Green’s antics and what it means for the Democrat Party.
If the Democrats want a 77-year-old congressman to be the face of their resistance heckling the president, then bring it on. But we couldn’t allow that on the House floor and so I had to eject them. I didn’t want to do that. I hate that it resorted to that, but we’ve got to keep decorum in the chamber.
This used to be a celebrated event, you know, pomp and circumstance, and both sides would applaud for the president. You know, we did that for President Biden on the lines that were there.
While Speaker Johnson took swift and decisive action to deal with Green, some of his Republican colleagues say they are going to be pushing for the Democrat to face formal censure in front of the chamber.
The House Freedom Caucus (HFC) put House members on notice before Trump’s speech that any Democrat who followed through on their threats to disrupt the address would be punished for their actions.
