Construction to begin mid-January
SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico Civic Center will break ground on a long-awaited $9.8 million renovation later this month.
In the spring of 2022, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced a $5.5 million federal grant to make major improvements to the now 45-year-old venue.
The federal grant funds will be combined with $4.3 million in state and local funding.
“The planned improvements will total more than $9.8 million, representing the single largest investment in this building since it was rebuilt after the fire,” said Steve Miller, director of Wicomico Recreation, Parks & Tourism. “We are hopeful that this investment will attract new events and generate additional economic activity in the county.”
Plans include an expanded box office and lobby, safety barriers along the north and west sides of the venue, improved wayfinding, improved ADA access, an expanded food court and better connectivity between the Civic Center and the Wicomico High School campus.
The venue will remain fully operational throughout the renovation process. Visitors can find the most up-to-date information about the renovation at https://www.wicomicociviccenter.org/about/news.
The project is expected to be complete in roughly one year.
polishing a turd!
So will they be able to sell beer?
If not why bother
What’s going to happen to the old mall lot
Sounds like a waste to me
More taxes and wasted spaces
They’ve been able to sell beer for years there. No hard alcohol though
Great. Shiny new building – I’m sure all those top tier acts will cancel their performances in OC to come running.
not.
more waste – same game
All for what? A few dog shows a year?
