Hospital CEOs: No jobs lost in TidalHealth, AGH merger

Jobs would be preserved and a high patient volume would be spread out between the Lower Shore’s two leading hospital systems as they continue to discuss their pending merger.

Both organizations are currently operating with staffing vacancies and actively hiring, said Toni Keiser, vice president of public relations for Atlantic General Hospital (AGH).

“We expect there to be no immediate planned job changes and as we work through the due diligence process, we will carefully evaluate how best to optimize our overall performance and are optimistic about creating additional employment opportunities within the region,” she said in an e-mail.

TidalHealth CEO Steve Leonard, who also serves as president of Tidal Health Peninsula Regional, said he plans to welcome all contracted AGH physicians into the fold, especially since TidalHealth is “overwhelmed with volume” of patients.

“We could have a primary care office right down the road from another one – and we need both of them,” Leonard said.

“There’s a lot of anxiety out there” he added. “I know one of those (concerns) is around jobs. There are no shortage of job opportunities when it comes to taking care of Delmarva. So, we look forward to keeping everybody and working together.”

  1. They said the same thing when Nanticoke was bought lol.
Lots of people lost their jobs in Seaford.
Tidal certainly hasn’t invested in the Seaford Campus-
They needed it to process all of the Delaware Medicare/Medicaide recipients who go to Salisbury.
It was absolutely the worst thing to happen for Tidal Seaford.
And all the Board members who said “it’ll be wonderful”-yep they all left

      1. It has nothing to do with the city council. Here are some facts you may need to know.
In January 2020, Peninsula Health System, parent of the then named Peninsula Regional Medical Center, merged with Nanticoke Health Services of Seaford, Delaware.[9] On September 1, 2020, the health system was officially renamed TidalHealth Services. The renaming coincided with a rebranding of all affiliated institutions with the TidalHealth branding.[10]
Outside of its main hospital location, it includes a network of specialty and family physicians, a network of labs and pharmacies, plus two health complexes in Millsboro, Delaware[5] and Ocean Pines, Maryland.[6] ( And now adding Atlantic General Hospital )
This is what Tidal Health could become in time. Tidal Health will continue to expand its reach and services.
How big is Novant Health system? ( reference, Charlotte N.C. )
About us. Novant Health is an integrated network of more than 850 locations, including 19 hospitals, more than 700 physician clinics and urgent care centers, outpatient facilities, and imaging and pharmacy services.

  2. ” Leonard said not only will some patients in Sussex County be routed to Berlin for speedier medical service, ”
So, for speedier medical service, one must drive about 40 – 50 miles. [ give or take ]
Here is what I had to go through earlier this year. I had to have an arterial C/T scan done on my lower extremities.
( belly to toes ) Could not have it done at Tidal Health Peninsula Regional . ( short staffed is what I was told )
Had to drive to Tidal Health Nanticoke Memorial to have the C/T scan done. For reference, I live in Eden, about 8 miles from Tidal Health Peninsula Regional. My drive to Tidal Health Nanticoke Memorial is about 35 miles.
( Yup, had to drive right by PRMC )
Secondly that the article doesn’t mention is the difference in many of the health insurance companies.
Even though I went to ” Tidal Health ” I was charged for going ” out of network ” Almost $400 out of pocket because I went out of state for the procedure. ( even though I was pre approved for the procedure )
A little side note, my health insurance covers me for damn near everything in Maryland but not in Delaware.
