Important school status alert (Dec 10): Due to a city water issue (burst pipe) near the school, Parkside High and Parkside CTE are closed today for students and staff. The Prince Street PreK class that meets at Parkside CTE is canceled for today. Note: Schumaker Complex by Parkside is not affected and will be open as usual.
If education wasn’t so poor with resources (teachers and money for day to day ops) then the possibility of a day of at home learning for situations like THIS would work.
But nooooooo, parents need babysitters and others would moan that one can’t receive the same at home than in the school house.
Key here is reading and comprehending a comment. At home schooling would work for instances like this or fog or snow. One offs, not all the time…So much goes into prepping a school day…that advance work could be eliminated, time saved AND kids would still learn. Without resources and the people that know how to handle a shift like this…it will never work.
Lather rinse repeat the same rules we have followed since the 1900s.

Unforeseen event. Teachers’ connectivity from home on personal devices varies widely. Those who toted their laptops home and have good internet would fare best; many/possibly most don’t carry them home automatically. So there would be great inconsistencies about what teachers could create on the fly. Main thing was to keep those normally showing up from congesting the school.
Students generally have variety of projects ongoing they could work on or review. Those self motivated will spend some time that way.
