Democrats are facing backlash after firing off a social media post that mocked people for complaining about the high price of eggs after holiday shopping over the Thanksgiving weekend broke records.
The Democratic members of the House Ways and Means Committee which deals with finances retweeted a report on X that shoppers spent a record $10.8 billion on Black Friday.
One X user wrote with it: ‘Record air travel, holiday shopping busting records, stock market at all-time highs. The economy “is the worst ever,” some Pollyannas whine.’
Then the House Democrats reposted that on X adding ”And here we were thinking y’all couldn’t afford eggs!’
It appeared to be an apparent dig at people saying they voted Republican because of the economy, but it backfired in an epic fashion as people on the internet were not having it.
The committee Democrats have since deleted their post, but screen grabs are now being shared across the internet.
Inflation overall has eased dramatically since it spiked coming out of the coronavirus pandemic, but costs remain up across the board.
What goes around, comes around.
