State board approves US Wind permit for West OC pier, bulkhead project

The Maryland Board of Public Works this week granted US Wind a tidal wetlands permit to build a pier and bulkhead at the West Ocean City Harbor, but officials say the company will first need to meet numerous special conditions.

On Wednesday, a state board comprised of the governor, comptroller and state treasurer supported the Maryland Department of the Environment’s recommendation to grant US Wind a permit to construct a pier and bulkhead, which will support a planned operations and maintenance facility on Harbor Road. While the board heard from various local officials about the impacts such a facility would have on the commercial harbor, officials opined their concerns went beyond the board’s purview.

“I want to reiterate that the tidal wetlands license before us is only for the work to be completed on the bulkhead and the existing pier,” Comptroller Brooke Lierman said at the conclusion of Wednesday’s hearing. “It is not the actual operations and maintenance facility or the turbines themselves. We are not permitted to look at what this is actually being used for. We are looking at what is actually happening regarding the physical structure.”

  1. “We are not permitted to look at what this is actually being used for.” Does that sound familiar ? “You have to pass the bill to see what is in it” Why are people so stupid and gullible ?

  2. The AI and government databanks will be the principal beneficiaries of any electricity generated. This electricity AIN’T for us!
