Publishers Notes: Seriously, how are locals surviving? $2,700.00 a month! Can you just imagine what child support must cost today! I know that’s a crazy way to look at things but let’s get real, between groceries, gas, auto insurance and general overhead, this is nuts!
Totally agree. $32400 in rent per year. ( this is a must pay or you’re out on the streets ) May or may not include the HOA fees.
Minimum wage $15.00 – 40 hours a week , 52 weeks a year = $31200 ( $600 per week )
Lets say your wage is $30.00 – 40 hours a week , 52 weeks a year = $62400 ( $1200 per week )
$62400 minus rent leaves you $30000 a year or $2500 per month or $576.92 a week. Now minus your Fed, state and local taxes, health insurance, car payment and insurance, renters insurance, utilities, food and gas. Oh , lets not forget anywhere between 1 – 5 credit cards or personal loans. ( most people don’t live within their means ) These same stats can also be for a mortgage payment.
So now you need to find a full time minimum wage job to to afford to live weekly. ( single person )
Do we have a wage issue or an affordable housing issue ?

The median rent in Salisbury is $1,099, but the price range for all properties and bedrooms is $630–$3,980. In the past year, rent in Salisbury has increased by 3.8%, which is about $47 more per month.
Wage issue or affordable housing issue ?
The anwser is both, those that “have” are greedy and want still more partially creating homelessness.
I live in Salisbury, and my rent has increased $425 over the last 3 years. It sucks!
“Almost any illegal alien and his “ family” can afford this.. with 4 ebt cards and cards for the “kids” plus govt subsidies for the rent, .. no problem.
What fantasy land are you living in? Illegal immigrants are cramming full families into 1 bedroom apartments. They’re not competing with people trying to buy/rent full size homes.
Wage issue or affordable housing issue? Neither. The issue is most Americans are too stupid and undisciplined so they just spend (or try to spend) what they are asked or what the television tells them they should. If you don’t like a $2700 monthly rent, don’t spend a $2700 monthly rent. If someone wants to spend that much and thinks it worth it, that’s called a free market. If nobody wants to, or if nobody can afford to, then guess what? The owner will face a lengthy vacancy and the resulting financial strain, and lower the ask. But in a world where homeless people still think they must have the latest iPhone, and people park cars in their driveway that cost more than the houses they are in front of, and kids think they must spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on shiny sneakers, well …. The problem isn’t wages, inflation, affordable housing, or anything else like that. It’s just stupid people making stupid choices.
This has nothing to do with housing affordability… It’s in a newer luxury development (This home is only a couple years old with a private backyard. Located in a golf course and waterfront community with a marina and pool in Worcester county. Excellent schools. Close to beaches)! Of course it’s going to be $2700. People making minimum wage live in minimum rent apartments without garages, marinas, pools, golf courses, etc. Stop crying!!!
According to ziprecruiter for October, 2024, the average salary is $49,497 for the Salisbury area. This was listed in the “High Earner” category at the upper 75th percent. If that’s the high end, how the hell do you afford a town house like that, or any of the properties listed? The answer is, you don’t. You buy a little place on paraonsburgh(or the like) as a fixer upper and sell it down the road for something larger (if starting a family) or something fancier ( if family isn’t in your plans). The point is that the rents are outrageous for the area. Maybe the college or school systems pay well (I don’t know / I’m self employed and just barely making 61k), but who honestly thinks they will fill those places? Then again, maybe I’m just a dumb ole hick that doesn’t know anything.
Dam smart landlord! If you can get it, why not? Good business and side income!!$&&
