As many as 20,000 Haitian immigrants have arrived in a town of just 58,000, thanks in large part to the Biden administration’s expansion of the Temporary Protected Status program for immigrants from that nation.
The splashiest claim out of Springfield — that the Haitians are eating the locals’ pet cats — generated a social-media firestorm with no apparent basis in reality. (Cute memes, though!)
But tweets seemingly from locals going back to March contain claims of Haitians capturing, killing and eating ducks from a local park.
And those claims were backed up recently by outraged citizen Anthony Harris at a town meeting.
