Stacy Davis Gates, president of the Chicago Teachers Union and executive vice president of the Illinois Federation of Teachers, oversees a school system that is failing its students.
A recent Illinois State Board of Education report card is dreadful.
In 30 schools in Illinois, not a single student can read at grade level, 22 of which are in the City of Chicago.
In 53 schools, not a single student can do math at grade level, 33 of which are in Chicago.
This is a binary issue not a racial issue…either you CAN read or you CAN’T read. Most printed word is in BLACK AND WHITE. The words are the same whether you are black or white (except, of course, if you are non-English speaking…but that’s for another day). I am a teacher, retired, white (without any known supremacy leanings) and I have taught many children, both black and white (brown, red, yellow too) to read the same English words successfully. They also, for the most part, could pass these ‘white supremacist’ tests at or above grade level. Sure, there was a fairly normal Bell Curve in the test score results but what Illinois and especially Chicago schools are seeing is NONE of the children reading at grade level. I believe this woman needs to look a little deeper for a root cause for this happening.
Maybe not having a woke racist in charge would be a good start!
Imagine that, a black woman blaming racism for kids failing. How about making kids apply themselves and pay attention in class instead of looking at their cellphones and texting!!
