Grassley demands answers from Secret Service about new footage from attempted assassination of Trump

Grassley wrote a letter to acting Secret Service Acting Director Ronald Rowe and requested more information about the officer’s claims.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, is demanding answers from the Secret Service regarding a Butler County police officer’s claims in newly released bodycam footage regarding the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13.

The newly released video includes audio in which a local police officer, just moments after the assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania campaign rally, complains about the Secret Service not having covered the rooftop from which the sniper shot.

“I f—ing told them that they needed to post guys f—ing over here,” says a Butler Township officer in the recording obtained by The Wall Street Journal on Thursday under a public records request. “I told them that f—ing Tuesday,” he added. “I talked to the Secret Service guys. They’re like, ‘Yeah, no problem. We’re going to post guys over here.’”

Grassley wrote a letter to Secret Service Acting Director Ronald Rowe and requested more information about the officer’s claims.

“Were you aware of this body camera footage before your July 30 congressional testimony? If not, why not?” Grassley’s letter reads, according to Fox News.

He requests details about the Tuesday meeting referred to in the recording between the Secret Service and local police.

“In addition, list all local, state, and federal personnel present at that meeting, provide all records and precisely answer whether the statement from the Butler Township officer is an accurate representation of events,” the letter states.
