The House Impeached Mayorkas, Now It Could Reduce His Pay to $1

In February, the U.S. House impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over the Biden administration’s mishandling of America’s Southern border security.

Mayorkas became the first cabinet secretary to be impeached in 150 years.

He was impeached on a party-line vote for failing to enforce the law on the border and then allegedly lying to Congress when he claimed the administration was in control of the border.

But when the impeachment was sent to the Senate In April, Democrats wasted little time dismissing the charges and avoiding a full Senate trial for the embattled Secretary.

With Democrats in control of the Senate, Mayorkas may have avoided accountability for the administration’s immigration malfeasance but the matter isn’t exactly settled.

The House still controls the purse strings of government and that gives the Republicans who impeached Mayorkas one more card to play.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has introduced an amendment under the Holman Rule that seeks to reduce the Secretary’s salary to $1.
