Decorated airman, 23, is killed by cops who shot him SIX TIMES while he was on FaceTime to a friend – before police ‘realize their deadly mistake’

An airman was killed at his home after police allegedly forced their way into the wrong apartment and shot him as his horrified friend watched on FaceTime.

US Air Force Senior Airman Roger Fortson, 23, was identified as the young man shot dead in a shooting last Friday afternoon.

It took place at Fortson’s off-base residence – an apartment complex on 319 Racetrack Road in Okaloosa County, Florida.

A Okaloosa County deputy was responding to report of a disturbance and ‘reacted in self-defense after he encountered a 23-year-old man armed with a gun,’ cops say.

A witness, who was on FaceTime with Fortson during the time of the shooting, claimed Fortson heard a knock at the door and asked who was there.

  1. You are never in more danger than when the police are around.

Charge this deputy exactly the way any citizen would be charged.
Home invasion, murder, reckless endangerment for starters.

  2. I don’t condone the Deputy’s actions, but why didn’t he answer when asked “who is it”? It was an apartment building, where was this guy going to run if in fact he was the person they were looking for?

  3. From all appearances cop was very much in the wrong. Noise complaint. Why was his weapon in hand?
Was there in fact noise coming from unit he knocked at when he approached or knocked? Wasn’t evident on body cam audio. Airman was in his residence and gun was pointed toward floor; all legit. Cop overreaction.

Tragic mistake. Family will get a settlement but their son is dead. Cop should be convicted for manslaughter and do time. Department will review policies, etc.

I strongly support our LEOs but when they get it wrong innocent folks perish. Appears to be situation here.
