On April 19, 2024, the City of Salisbury sent a letter to a vendor of the county referencing the event to be held on May 4-5 at Connelly Mill Quarry Site. The City of Salisbury has stated that this location, although owned by the County, falls within the city limits and is not zoned for such an event. After meeting with our attorneys, it was determined that we are exempt from any zoning regulations as a governmental agency, especially because the event is a public-ticketed event.
Historically, the City of Salisbury has not interfered with Wicomico County’s use of County-owned property within the City limits. This is where our concern lies with the Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex. This complex is the home to many ballfields and the amazing adaptive field 7 ½. The Complex was constructed in a conservation zone which does not allow such recreational activities to take place. But, because we, as a governmental agency, are exempt from zoning regulations, we were able to provide a space for all citizens to enjoy and play ball.
As the Executive of this County, I am concerned that since the City of Salisbury has already overreached for an event to be held at the Quarry, what is to say that they will not do the same thing to Henry S. Parker Complex which we rent to various sporting events, including the USSSA Softball World Series. Are we not going to be able to provide an adaptive space for disabled children to play ball? Will we have to get rid of the sensory trails or sensory pods?
Governmental agencies are exempt from zoning regulations and given the autonomy to make decisions because they know what is needed for their citizens and communities. I am asking that the citizens of the county, please contact the mayor, Randy Taylor at mayor@salisbury.md or any of the City Council to ensure that they have no intentions of using this same argument about zoning to disrupt or potentially shut down our ballfields and playgrounds.
lol, ok julie
All Queen Julie is doing is using special needs kids as a tool in her political games with the county and city….another failed teacher who can’t hold a real job….
Just more drama bull$hit from the executive office
Pave the quarry!
those fields should be shut down and games moved to worcester county. the fields are a disgrace, outfields are mainly composed of clover – perfect if you enjoy bees and have no allergies. the park is a dust bowl and is used frequently for daytime sex events. if you ever needed to use one of the rest rooms you probably would not forget the experience. trash cans throughout the park are emptied occasionally. whats on the ground stays on the ground. whoever is in charge of wicomico county recreation obviously doesn’t care, it’s been like this a long time. henry s parker himself would be disgusted. the park should be watered down and used for a giant mud hop.
The fields that she should be worried about is the muck infields and the wire grass and broad leaf outfields at Winterplace park and East Wicomico Little League. When Worcester County completes there complex say good bye U.S.S.S.A to these terrible fields. I have dealt with some clown named Workman at Henry Parker and could never get a answer from him until he checked with other people. What a waste of time this guy is. In my honest opinion the fields at Henry Parker just need to fine tuned. The infields are in excellent shape and the outfields just need some money spent on them to be excellent too. They are light years in better shape than any county fields on the east side.
What about the goose feces? The geese are making a massive comeback this year.
i walk my dog a lot at the complex and from what i see there is only 1 person there that is a good worker and he’s been there a long time. the couple other employees seem to be a waste of air – they are young guys who have fallen in love with their phones. its hard to believe the place looks as good as it does.
