One of Maryland’s leading Democratic lawmakers is proposing a tax on services as a path to increase revenue statewide.
But according to the Maryland Republican Party, the proposal would bring “the largest single tax increase” in state history.
In a statement Monday, Maryland’s GOP referred to the plan as, “the everything tax.”
HB1515, which is sponsored by Maryland House of Delegates Majority Leader David Moon (D, Montgomery County), proposes lowering the state sales tax to five percent while adding a tax to many services statewide.
The bill would expand taxation to include services like haircuts, academic tutoring, pest control, and potentially funerals.
During a nearly three-hour-long hearing Monday morning, Moon told fellow lawmakers the state’s budget deficit and the looming price tag of Maryland’s Blueprint for Education is the driving force behind the proposal.
You have to understand the financial needs of those who will not work or and have crossed the border illegally.
MARYLAND is swamped with the post Civil War families who came to MARYLAND to look for jobs, and thousands of Haitians.

Well…good news for us is Delaware is a stones throw away. It’ll be worth the drive both in time and gas to go there to get what you need. I already do for bigger purchases that add up to a lot of money when you figure in sales tax.

I think Delmar will become the news exodus city for new business and services from Maryland. These jerks in Annapolis seem to forget just how small Maryland is as a state. It doesn’t take long to drive to another state. For me, Delaware is only 5 minutes away to the state line. Virginia is less than an hour!
