Maryland House passes bill allowing illegal immigrants access to state healthcare exchange

MD House voted in favor of bill by 101-34 margin; similar legislation being considered by Senate

The Maryland House approved a measure on Friday to enable people to buy health insurance through the state’s health care exchange regardless of their immigration status, with the approval of a federal waiver.

The House voted 101-34 for the bill, which now goes to the Senate, where similar legislation is under consideration.

The measure would require the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange to submit a federal waiver application by July 1, 2025, to implement the program. The waiver is needed because of federal restrictions on undocumented immigrants using the marketplace. Washington state received such a waiver from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in late 2022. The program in Maryland could start as early as 2026, if a waiver is granted.

  1. Of course they did. I really hate Maryland. In about 1.5 years I’ll be able to move….hopefully we aren’t in a civil war at that point! Citizens are tired of this crap being shoved down our throats. Even moving probably won’t help as it seems the LEFT DEMONcrats have totally ruined our country for our citizens.

  2. Regardless of what you want to happen to illegal immigrants in the long run, while they are here it is better for ALL of us for them to have health insurance. Don’t forget, they have to pay for it, same as you or me. And the larger the insurance base is, the lower everyone’s costs get. Not to mention that if they are insured, hospitals and in turn taxpayers don’t have to bear the burden of paying for uninsured services. So put aside your hatred and hope they do get insured. It’s just better business, even for you.

  3. 81 million “voted” for this mess. They should solely be responsible for funding it dealing with the consequences.

We’re getting closer by the day to Taxation without Representation that this country initially fought against. Like Benjamin Martin said in The Patriot, “Why should I trade 1 tyrant 3,000 miles away for 3,000 tyrants 1 mile away?”

What happens if we all just stopped paying taxes? They can’t lock us all up.

  4. I can’t afford paying for healthcare!

I have paid my taxes for the last 44 years and have never received anything free from the government.

I think people of color will be the first to revolt. FJB and the Demorats that support this vegetable.

    1. Your cost for policies through the Maryland Health Exchange are related to your income, so I’m sure you could afford a health insurance policy 11:58. Have you tried?

  5. I see, reading comprehension is a problem here.?
They are going to pay for their health insurance, not receive it free.
Free I have a problem with, but if they pay health care, ssn and taxes like we all do what’s the issue??
We need more people contributing to the system..it’s the free I have a problem with!!

  6. deport them all problem solved! these bleeding heart liberals on here fail to realize the impact illegals are having on the complete social fabric of our society, impacting the schools, jobs, housing, crime. its not just about health care! deport them all!
