Updates from Annapolis

Updates from Annapolis

As we begin the 446th Legislative Session, I feel grateful and blessed for my friends and family who support me from home and in Annapolis. This will be my tenth Session and I am looking forward to all of the good we can accomplish for our neighbors back home.
Our first two weeks have been busy with the introduction of Governor Moore’s 2025 Budget, committee briefings, and bill introductions. As we move through the next few months, we will continue to keep you updated here and on social media. If you would like to see a list of important Session dates, you can view that here. Thank you for your support and as always, you can contact us with questions or ideas:

The Government House is lit up for our Ravens!
Meet Penelope!

We are excited to welcome Penelope Grenning to our team this Session! Penelope will be interning with our office and we could not be more impressed by her work.  Here is a little bit about Penelope!

“Hello! My name is Penelope and I’m a Philosophy, Politics and Economics Major at the University of Maryland, College Park. I have lived in Maryland my whole life and was raised in Frederick, MD. I became interested in Maryland public policy when I learned how deeply it impacts everyday life from public transportation, to grocery store taxes, to dealing with crime. My love of research and public policy to help others is why I applied to work for Delegate Anderton Jr.”

Appropriations Committee
As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to update you weekly on bills we hear and briefings we attend this Session!

Among the many organizations the Appropriations Committee have heard from so far, we attended briefings with the Maryland Department of Transportation about their Updated Consolidated Transportation Program, the Secretary of Budget and Management, Helene Grady on the state workforce, and received an update from the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services on the Victims of Crime Act. We look forward to working with all of the various commissions and departments as it relates to the Eastern Shore and Maryland as a whole.

2025 Budget
This week, Governor Moore released his 2025 Budget which included projects funded on the Eastern Shore. Below are some of the items funded in Wicomico County. We will continue to work with the Governor and his Administration this Session to secure essential funding from the County Executive’s priorities.
Meet the Wicomico County Delegation
In each newsletter, we will use this section to single out one member of our County Delegation to help you get to know the people who represent all corners of Wicomico County here in Annapolis. This week we are highlighting Delegate Hartman.

Delegate Hartman was elected to the House of Delegates in 2019 and represents District 38C which covers Wicomico and Worcester counties. Delegate Hartman is a member of the Ways and Means committee which deals with tax and education issues in our state. We are grateful to Delegate Hartman for his hard work in his committee and will continue to work with him on behalf of our constituents on the Shore!

Eastern Shore Delegation
The Eastern Shore Delegation just started our weekly meetings where we hear from organizations across the Eastern Shore. Organizations brief our members on legislative priorities and yearly reviews.

If you would like to watch the past two meetings you can view them here:

Thank you for the continuous support! If you would like to contact us with an idea, issue, or concern, please either call: 410-841-3431 or email Carl.Anderton@house.state.md.us. We look forward to hearing from you!
